Help!!!! rear of car has its own mind
well one thing for sure is that my rear struts are blown...i feel like a have hydros or something. anyway, i was taking a normal turn not too hard and all of a sudden the rear of the car loses it! i wasnt going all fast and turning hard either...went into the other lane but luckily i didnt hit the car coming. my question is can blowns struts cause the rear to swing around like that??? also, if i go over sewers or any bumps the rear kinda loses it as well.
any help is appreciated.
btw, i got a 95 max.
thanks.

so you lost control with the old struts right?
yes, this will cause serious loss of control. i drove the I30 from atlanta to louisville on completely dead struts and the rear end was CRAZY! one of the worst i've felt on any car. i went slow through the mountains because it was actually a little scary it was so bad. it kicked out over every bump too.
your struts became no longer strong enough to resist the strength of the spring therefore not doing it's job properly. although they are called "shock absorbers" that's not exactly what they do. the spring absorbs the shock the strut just controls it. and that's what you didn't have...control.
You should have had your struts replaced all the way around especially on the front as that's were the most tire wear occurs as it drives the car, turns the car and most weight sits on it. Do your tires a favor and replace those front struts.
"can a bad installation job do this?"
I'm confused..did the dealer install blown struts? but no i doubt they messed something up.

i got the car a little over a month ago. the dealer replaced the rear struts about 3 weeks ago because they were making noise. i saw the struts before they were put on my car and they were brand new straight from nissan. btw..i bought my car at a ford dealer so they did the install.

So you lost control with the new struts.
Basically, what you did is make the rear of the car firmer by replacing blown struts with new ones.
If at the same time your front struts are a bit weak, you can induce a tail happy setup.
You should make sure your front suspension isn't dead as well.

Take it on the Highway...
Brake hard, Brake slow, Corner fast, Corner slow, go over a peed bump 5 mph, and at 8 mph....get as much info before you go there or they will tell you some BS...
My friend bought a Prelude at a Used Ford dealer and had ride/suspension problems and after FINALY getting them to test it and put it on a LIFT...WE FOUD OUT THAT IT HAD A BEND IN THE FRAME. Test it out more and give them more "symptoms"

Are you sure that the Ford dealer got the shocks from Nissan and they didn't use a crappy shock like Monroe or something.
chris j vurnis has a good point check the fronts.
If Ford is going to replace them see if you can get them to put in the KYB GR-2.
