What is a Y-PIPE?

Could you guys tell me exactly what a y-pipe is. Plus, are there any common problems with them?

Thanks

The y-pipe is the part of your exhaust system right before your catalytic converter. There shouldn't be any problems with it. The only problem is that the stock y-pipe holds your car back.
Do a search. You'll probably be able to find out more info.

I have used the search, it mainly talks about the y-pipe as being a good mod. No explanation of what a y-pipe is. Thanks guys for your info.

I'm considering purchasing a y-pipe, however, I hope I will not regret it due to the pipe giving me annoying problems.

Cheers

go to www.cattman.com or www.warpspeedperformance.com read and look at the pics of what it is. it basically frees up your stock restructive exhaust by smoother flowing piping and getting rid of the restructive pre-cat.

only you val...

the Y pipe is what comes after the headers and basically connects the headers to the catalytic converter...its just that pipe in btwn, its pretty long...the reason its called a Y pipe is cuz theres two seperate sets of headers on our car(front and rear cylinders) and the Y pipe connects to both parts and comes together as a Y and goes back to the cat
the reason the Y pipe frees up alotta lag, is because it removes two precats that were in the stock Y pipe and its also a bigger pipe to allow more free air flow

exhaust manifold, not headers

have piping coming out of each manifold, and the Y pipe, runs it into one single pipe, then that carrries thru the rest of the exhaust.

actually he is pretty much correct. the y-pipe is a y-shaped pipe (duh!) equipped with two seperate bowls that connect and lead up to one mouth piece. it is commonly used to mix two different types of *tobacco* with two different flavors. some studies suggest that when combined with a free-flowing mouthpiece, the y-pipe can yeild 8-12% bigger hits.

The paint just burns off, even the black paint you see here.
