Need Help!!!

My brother has a 99 maxima se. He just got the check engine light today. He and my dad went to pull the ecu codes, but he doesn't have a screw there. I think the guy before him either removed it or lost it I need to know if there is anything he can do about this??? Thanks
Matt

OK, I know I'm not helping (yet) but when you do get the codes you can look here to look up the diagnosis.

I've been using Google for past 15 minutes, searched this forum, and can't find any method to get the codes to flash on your dash CEL, which seems pretty stupid to me. I can do this on my Z...

I know this sound stupid (why stop now?) but other folks having this problem have.... tightened their gas cap! (Really.) Try it.

The Check Engine light can be triggered by literally hundreds of problems.

Some late 99 cars had a new style ECU with no screw at all...just a hole in the case.

Sounds like you're out of luck on that one.

so, you're saying that he won't be able to check the codes??? It smells pretty bad in his car. It almost smells like gas.
