96 maxima

i have a 96 maxima with 62,000 miles...the latest trbles that i am looking for assistance on are:

check engine light:
dignostic shows0150,p0105,p1105 (oxygen/map/alternator)
map sensor has been changed and tubing as well..but yet the code still comes bck...and sts, where i got it replaced checked map censor and states that it is fine....the car used to never hold an idle..i would have to drive with 2 feet..but after that was replaced that problem went away...my temp/coolant censors where changed at the same time as well..and i ust recently changed my thermostat

i tested my alternator by placing a multimeter on the battery while the car was running and the reading is 14.3...which i am told is fine

the guy at auto zone told me that the alternator might be on its way out because of the check engine code

oxygen censor...i am not shure which one it is or have not replaced it yet

having trble starting my car unless i push on the gas when it is real cold out..the car starts then just dyes...will not hold an idle ...those dreadfull early mornings of work ... the battery i have doesnt hold any water..i thought maybe i needed to add?...and this only happens when it is sitting over night and the morning is real cold

the car is automatic...and it seems it goggles a bit when it is down shifting intermittently..it is not downshifting smoothly...sometimes the car feels like it has allot of pep and other times..i have to really push it down and after a couple of sec it kicks in and takes off

i had a tuneup last summer and i keep up on my oil changes and use the middle gas

the timing belt hasnt been looked at yet...the car just hit over the 60,000 mark

any suggestions on the above...the mechanics might change out the whole computer system before the problems are all resolved and it will cost me a fortune

any advice would be appreciated

something is happening where the battery isn't getting charged, or there is a short somewhere that is draining the battery ... have you installed any aftermarket stuff, or been in a accident?

the battery doesnt seem to be dead though...i turn key the car rolls over but then dyes...if i start it again and push on the gas and rev the engine...eventually the idle will hold....no accidents...only after market stuff would be halogen light bulbs..lol...which isnt anything...car isnt keeping idle...i heard something about a battery having cold cranking power...but not shure

from what you say, it sounds like your alternator is bad ... i didn't say your battery was dead, i said it wasn't charged. big difference. when you start the car and then it dies, thats because the battery isn't charged. Then when you start it again and rev the engine that will charge the battery enough to keep the car running ... better take it to the mechanic and have him check out the alternator

thanks for your advice..the test i did was with a multi meter..i placed it on the battery and i got a reading of above 14..doesnt that mean alternator is charging with enough volts?
