Sometimes Maxima owners do the same thing with other cars too.

Agreed. That's why I got my car in the first place. I wanted something different. I'm sick of seeing those hooked up civics, crx, accords...etc esspecially when they're not even fast. I think the max is heck of a fast car for a n/a v6. hondas can't come close to even touching maxima's. Plus with just intake and full exhaust you're up to the level where you can compete with real sports cars like dsm's(stock of course). DSM=mitsubishi eclipse turbo; Eagle Talon TSI; Plymouth Laser. I love those cars.

I love being underestimated, especially at the dragstrip. I love rolling up to the line against a late model Mustang GT or LT1 F-Body, listening to the announcer make some crack about my grocery-getter against the musclecar, and then I end up running quicker or damn near door to door with the musclecar. You don't know how many domestic guys come up to me and ask what I have done. I tell then I have intake and exhaust work and they look like this

This car is a blast at the track compared to my old 94 Z28. Everyone expects you to be fast in a Z28, but no one expects much for an import V6 sedan.

As for the import guys showing no respect, maybe it's different where you live, but my car is pretty well respected with the import guys. Maybe it's because many of them have seen me or heard about my car at the track. Mid 14s aren't terribly fast, but it's faster than most souped up imports you see on the track.

Agreed the Max isn't a slow car, but it also is not slow. I got mine because it has a strong enough engine that I wouldn't Bit@h too much and it looks nice. I had way too many speeding tickets with my Eclipse GSX 5spd(went through 2 turbo rebuilds though$$$). Also, I'm not sure too many N/A Max's could take one. They were quick off the line and........well it just seems like my car is a fuc%in' pig on the road in comparison. Although it is more comfortable, bigger, and hella more pimp.

Huh?

I wasted a GSX the other day on the freeway - I was amazed at how slow he was.

He waved me over to an exit, and we both pulled over and his eyes popped out of his head when I told him I was an Auto....

Cool guy, tho. He had an upgraded boost controller or something, exhaust, AFC, and some other junk.

actually my car had it's slow moments........especially when my turbo was shot.........most of the GSX's I still see around have blown turbos or turbos that need rebuilt......you can hear them peak out.....and if you hear it whistle early and no go, then it is shot......but when it is doing good, they can be hella fast.....14G....

I'll tell you guys exactly why the Maxima is both unpopular and underestimated in the import scene. Price. Most kids do not drive 20-30 thousand dollar cars.

Only lately are 4th gens on the used market at prices that kids can afford. This is why the Maxima's aftermarket and "presence" in the scene is only now beginning to be recognized.

Luckily, I had parents nice enough to bless me with a brand new 1995 GXE when I was 17

when i was *18* i was "blessed" with a mercury tracer (basically a ford escort. I used to get DESTROYED by my friends v-6 mustang. When i was 19 i realized that if i neutral dropped it at 6K rpms i could cherp the tires. 2 weeks later i was at the dealership trading in my tracer with a ruined tranny for my maxima. Now i'm 21, I've always been able to DESTROY my friends stang with my max, and i'm $320 poorer ever month cause of my car note. But i'm happy =).

The moral of the story is... maxima's are underestimated because not to many people know that they have 190 stock HP, and hardly ANYONE knows that they have 205ft/lbs of torque stock.

I was "Blessed" with an '85 Pontiac Bonneville and the words "if you can make it run, you can have it" when I was 17. The only redeeming factor of this car was that it had a Chevy V-8 5.0L engine. So, rebuilding the cylinder heads and replacing two bent exhaust valves, one broke pushrod, and one bent pushrod later, I had a hoss of engine to play with. After a while I hollowed out the cat and put a glasspack on it. That thing was rumbly, but not too loud. For all its downfalls, it was my first love when it came to cars. I learned a lot in the process too.

Hahaha when i graduated highschool i was blessed with a 92 saturn sl1 automatic!! 85hp to the flywheel But for what the car was it was fun to drive. I put a intake, exhuast, throttle body and did the suspension. It was seriously like driving a go cart, the car was plastic and i gutted the b*tch. At the most the car weighed 2500 pounds. I could easily whip around corners at 45 with no tire squeel. I miss that handling so much. So for having around 100hp to the flywheel it was like driving a crx si with more tq. For those of you who don't know about saturns watch out, they make a lot of parts for them cars now. The cca basic turbo kit i believe is only 1840 for a lil over 2grand u get the deluxe kit and make 200wheel hp. People running stock 7psi are hitting high 13s on slicks. To me a saturn is the 2nd most underrated car to the maxima. Saturns get more respect than us to some people

When I was 16 I blessed myself with a 1980 Chevy Malibu V8. I don't miss that car a bit...... 13 years later it still sits in my driveway, prettier than the day it rolled off the showroom (and with a few more horses). I love that car.
