Has anyone ever taken apart the rear-view mirror?

Hey, I had the idea of buying an aftermatket indoor/outdoor temperature sensor and mounting the display digit LEDs inside the rear-view mirror (maybe scraping away some of the silver coating) so it looks like my friend's Suburban. If it's possible, I think it could look pretty sweet. But I can't figure out how to get the mirror open! I'm not sure what to pry and I don't want to force anything... does anyone have any ideas? If I end up doing this, I'll definitely post a writeup.

Thanks guys!

Doug

I have tried but I couldnt pry put the glass because I was afraid to break it. It was tricky to snap the ball in the socket though so wath out.

I took mine of my 87 which is basically the same rear view mirror, trust me, I can't explain how I did it, but i pryed it with a few things and eventually popped it off. The problem i had was that I scratched the bakc of the mirror, which reflected through to the front, so i had a small scratch in the middle of my mirror after. By the way, the reason i took the mirror of was to paint the whole assembly black. Goodluck
