do I need to drain the radiator if I want to remove the thermostat?

So do I have to drain the radiator first if I want to remove the thermostat? I'm sure I have to because I don't drain the radiator when I remove the thermostat, wouldn't there be radiator fluid gushing out?

Yes, because part of the radiator is higher than the thermostat...

There was post earlier that said someone took the element out expecting fluid to come out but it didn't.

I don't think it will unless you have the coolant system vent open or the radiator cap off. If air can get into the system some how, it would.

Make sense?
