Another Budget success story

Two of my friends are good listeners and bought me a Budget Exhaust Y for my birthday a couple weeks ago. Great birthday present. My friends rule.

Installed it today using instructions at maximadriver.com as a guide. Went fairly smooth.

The front nuts were pretty easy, though there was one on the rear section that was very hard to get to. A friend with small hands helps if you have large hands like me. The cat nuts weren't that bad. The passenger side came off fairly easily. The driver side is a difficult angle and I managed to round it off. I had to look 3 places to find a replacement nut having the right thread pitch. One possibly helpful note: you need a 22mm open wrench to get the oxygen sensors out. I could only find this wrench at NAPA, and it was their professional line, for $25. I did some quick math, bought a readily-availble 7/8" for $6, it did the job perfectly.

Once I had it off, I had the new one on in 20 minutes. No fit problems, it bolted right up. No angry bees noise. Immediately felt the gain, then resetted the ECU and will hopefully feel more over the coming weeks.

Just wanted to share my story. Very satisfied customer.

So are there any changes you'd suggest to the instructions at Maximadriver.com for the Budget Y Pipe install?

Mine arrived on Friday and I plan to try to install it with the help of a friend or two.

The install is actually very straightforward. I don't really know what I'm doing most of the time and usually rely heavily on directions, but didn't have to nearly as much for the Y. The only inconsistency was that my support bolts were 12mm, and the directions said something else. That was the only difference. And what I wrote about using a 7/8" wrench for the oxygen sensors might help too. Oh yeah, and it was easier to remove a bolt for the hanger near the cat to get it off.

Basically, remove the precat nuts, remove the cat nuts, remove the hanger, unplug oxygen sensors, remove the support bolts, drop the pipe, remove oxygen sensors. Installation is exact reverse. Again, once you have the factory one off, you'll have the replacement up there in 20 minutes tops.

Totally agree. There are is about 12 bolts that you have to take off, and I do recomend taking the hangers off and putting them back on first. The only thing that made my install take forever was because both of my O2 sensors were cross threaded into the stock y-pipe. If that hadn't been the case, the total install would have taken about 1 hour (1 1/2 hours tops). I also recommend a part that a company named OEM Parts makes (Autozone carries them) that is a 7/8" O2 sensor remover socket. The difference between that socket and a normal 7/8" socket is that a small section of the sockets is gone so that the O2 sensor wires won't get in the way.

Good luck and enjoy.
