Transmission upgrades and 1/4mile times

I have been wondering just how much of an improvement would you see on your 1/4mile time with a lightened flywheel, performance clutch, and short throw shifter? Which do you think would be the best for improving time out of those three, clutch?

I think those mods are very dependant on the driver and his/her's ability to shift fast enough. I have a STS and a performance clutch and it's been about a couple months since i've have had it... I would most likely still get owned w/ guys that have the stock clutch/shifter/flywheel. If you're thinking about getting those, i recommend it! It does make driving a more aggressive.

Does the flywheel help HP at all or does it only rev faster?

I was following you until you contradicted yourself....If it's a worthwile mod, then why would you STILL get owned by stockers????

He said it all depends on the driver, so it sounds like he can't shift very fast

A flywheel gives no hp gains. Its effect will be different in each gear. For the Maxima, getting one of the aftermarket flywheels will have the effect of reducing the curb weight 200lbs in 1st gear, 100 in 2nd, 50 in 3rd, and a negligable amount in 4th and 5th. You might gain .1 seconds with a flywheel, nothing to cheer about for 1/4 mile performance. Clutch won't do anything unless your current clutch isn't up to par, STS won't do anything either. If you want to be faster in the 1/4 mile you need more power not fancy drivetrain upgrades.

I'd beg to differ. I think the drivetrain has a lot of limiting factors. IMO, the gear ratios are holding the car back some. The Atlima shares the same transmission with the Maxima (big surprise?) On the 2000 Altima, gears 1-3 were shortened and revised and the final drive gear was made taller to improve acceleration and lower the engine work at speeds above 60 MPH.

"Getting the power to the ground is accomplished through an updated five-speed manual transmission with revised gear ratios in first through third, which vastly improves off-the-line acceleration over last year's model "

I think with some slightly revised gear ratios, an LSD, flywheel, ACT clutch, and STS would seriously take some time off the 1/4 mile, not to mention the 0-60.

There are different gear setups for us but I dont think anyone has tried them yet.

I remember in an older post where on member had ran a computer test on the gears avaliable for our tranny. He said that they would give us almost no gain due to our redline being 6500. Even with an upgraded ECM, he still said it needed more of a redline (like 7800-8000). That's if I remember the post correctly though.

Nah, if you do a search, the gear ratios are damn near perfect for the car (without the MEVI, that changes with the MEVI). On a car with basic bolt ons, the STS, Quaife, clutch, are going to give no gains. Trust me, I've driven them both down the 1/4. The flywheel, like I said above will also give minimal gains. If you wan't a car that's faster in a straight line, skip the drivetrain upgrades and get the power upgrades.

Well i am installing those with my conversion so i was just wondering how they would help. If they dont help straight line, what do they help? Doesn't the flywheel help rev faster which allows you to get into the powerband faster?
