My factory alarm going off by itself

It was about 3:35 in the morning. I was surfing the net and scanning some pics when I heard my factory alram go off. But the Aftermarket alarm, the Clifford, didn't go off. This has never happened before. There was nothing pressing against the keyless remote; it was on a table by itself. I quickly ran outside prepared to confront the would-be theif. There was no one there. The car was fine. All the windows were rolled up and nothing damaged. Does anyone know what could have caused this? This is the first time it's ever happened.

bump

I know going out there was stupid. I got the full brunt of scolding from my parents this morning. Has anyone else experienced this?

No. It hasn't happened again. The theif must have been scared off by the FIAMM high and low tone truck horns that I installed a while back.

Do you have a "tilt" switch sensor attached to the underside of your hood? If so, sometimes that little ball gets stuck in the "open" position when the hood is closed. If it stays there after the car is armed, it will sense the hood is raised triggering the alarm.

My car got stolen a couple months back, I had the factory alarm but it wasn't working right. The remote wasnt working at all but the factory alarm still worked, because sometimes I would leave the windows open at a friends house and lock the doors. Then I would unlock the doors form teh inside and the factory alarm would go off, you know the beeping of the horns. Anyays, after my car was stoeln and recovered, I put some aftermarket Prestige alarm, its awesome, but when it goes off, the horn goes off too. So I guess its both alarms at once. I knwo that people who have the same alarm don't get the horn, just the siren and lights flashing. I guess my factory alarm still working, never went off separately though.
