throttle body, and MAF sensor

You know my friend is like a 5.0 buff, and he said I should try to get a bigger throttle body and MAF sensor to let in more air. I was like they don't make any o those for the Maxima. The stock ones are 3 inch right? Well I think I read a post somewhere, where they used a 4 inch throttble body of an Xterra, and its 4 inches. But if the MAF sensor is 3 inch whats the point. I don't think you can use the one off the Xterra too can you? Becuase I assume its 4 inches. Becuase you can't even start the Maxima without the MAF sensor plugged in and if you do, you have to plug it back in and reset the ecu before it will start. So if anybodys done this, can somebody tell me....
