just make sure the bearings are shimmed properly so they won't go bad after 60k miles again. While the tranny is dropped, just rebuild the sucker... depending on how many miles you have. If over 100k miles, do it.

I didn't get my bearings fixed. I talked to Matthel (turbo95max) about it and he told me that alot of owners w/ this problem just ignore it and keep driving till the tranny starts making clunking sounds and literally dies out. With 140k miles on my car, i might as well do that for now. The sound only comes up when the car has been driven for a long while (tranny is hot). The sound is most noticable in first and second gear... it sounds like a whining/rubbing sound that gets faster when accelerating. You can also feel it when gripping the shifter.

I have a sound when Im cruizing at like 50 and i let off the gas its deep inside the tranny kind of like a wine whine sound...but its in every gear so Its probably my LSD

My axel shaft is leaking but its probably the seal is in too far or the seal got nicked during installation...new seal is going in tomorrow

I actually have my transmission apart right now. I am replacing the diff. bearings. You should pay close to the other bearings. One of the bearings on the input shaft was bad and I have to replace that.( that shaft has to be shimmed too) I would replace your axles seals too and make sure every thing is clean. I found allot of metal shavings in the tranny which probably causeed the damage to tthe input shaft bearing

Bearing Kit?

Hi Ri-Max,
I wonder where did you buy the bearing kit? How long it take you to replace all trans bearings? It been a bad luck for me- I bought my 1997 SE Max in August 02 and now I seeing gear leaking at driver axle (going in tranny) and engine making whinning noise when car in motion. I thinks the differential bearings have failed. Thanks.

I spend $130 canadian for the differential bearings and $30 for the input shaft bearing. I just measured for play for the input shaft and differntial. Input shaft was off by one shim size(need 1 new shim) while the differential was of by 5 shim sizes.(need two new shims. I am ordering my shims today. As for bearings I would replace the differential bearings and oil seals for sure. As for the other bearings I would check the input and mainshaft bearings. My main bearings looked fine thank god because they are harder to shim. My input shaft bearing on the clutch side ran rough because of pitting inside the bearing itself so I replaced it. In hind site I should of replaced the other input shaft bearing( it was fine) but I cannot wait for the part.

$200 to install the bearings in your trans. is a good price. As long as he follows the shimming procedure. If he does not it is a waste of money. I spent $60 just for a mechanic to just remove the 3 bearings. I did not want to cut the bearings of myself. (well worth the money)
