Its just not the same I think I need a muffler, I don't like the stock one at all and I think it just looks alot better with a newer one. I don't know which brand to get, but I'm looking for something inexpensive. Please help if possible thanks guys

I'm no muffler expert, but if you use the search function. And search for mufflers, you can get some really good info.

In the future Im going to get a new B pipe and a 5th gen muffler. That will keep the stock sound, but will have better performance and looks.

Did you ever have just a Y-pipe and stock muffler? I do, and the sound is not real nice. It's not loud or anything just does not sound smooth.
How would you compare the sound of a stock muffler with y-pipe to a 5th gen with Y-pipe?

Pretty much the same for me. They are both near silent.

What do you mean by smooth?

Smooth. Since I put on my Y-pipe my muffler sound as if it is old and worn out. It's nothing terrible or even that noticeable. I was just wondering if the 5th gen muffler sounded similar to a 4th gen(both with Y-pipes).
This is my logic: I am not real fond of the exhaust tone from a Y-pipe and stock 4th gen muffler. If I install a 2.5" B-pipe with a 5th gen muffer, I will have the same exhaust tone that I had before. Only louder. I would not go with the 2.5" b-pipe and 5th gen muffler set up if it will just increase the exhaust tone I have now.

I am trying to figure out if I want to go with a complete aftermarket cat-back or the B-pipe w/ 5th gen muffler. I am leaning twords the aftermarket.

Out of curiousity, does anyone have a pic of the 5th Gen muffler on a 4th Gen. Looking at the design of the muffler versus the design of the rear bumper, I would think that it would look funky. If this is not the case, I would TOTALLY be down for getting the 5th Gen muffler.

It does not look too bad. And if it really bugged you you can widen up the whole a bit to make it more flush. but I think it looks fine with the bumper stock and a 5th gen muffler.

Whats a good 4 gen. maxima muffler

Recently, my card started to make a loud sound during exceleration at low speed. 40 mph and below. After inspection realized my rear muffler is rusted and has a big hole in it. So I guess I need to replace it immediately. Anyway I went to discount auto parts and auto max and prices for a stock muffler was $88.00. Universal mufflers they said were between $15.00 and $25.00 / Now I know that if I use a universal muffler I will have too have to weld it on. I do not want do this unless its a last resort. Is 88.00 a gppd price for the stock muffler or should I sear online for it? Also in terms of after market mufflers, are there any that are decently priced, QUIET or similar to stock sound, and are there any made specially for the 4 gen maxthat I can just bolt on? I'm sorry I don;t know too much about this stuff. Can someone shed some light please.

Price does not sound bad. I wonder waht they charge for a 5th gen muffler there, Nissan wants around $450 for one.

I agree. I am in the process of looking for a muffler. I went with the budget y as my first mod. I recommend this and have read many threads about you'll enjoy your muffler if you get the y first.
