Gas Milage

What kind of gas milage are you guys gettin with your maximas (mpg)? I am seriously considering getting a maxima, but the fuel efficiency is my only concern. I am already aware the maxima takes premium fuel.
Thanks, your time is appreciated.

Remember gas mileage is always a good argument when adding mods like intake and exhaust. They are said to increase mileage...

It looks like my car uses more gas in the winter than in the summer.
Don't know why

This is typically because using the defroster utilizes the A/C which slowly eats more gas.

or because it takes longer for the car to get into the optimal temperature range, causing it to run richer longer, wasting more gas

I don't have a big range. I get about 21 city/hwy combo and about 25 hwy. My city is about average but my hwy sucks...then again, I rarely do under 70 mph. No complaints for the performance though.

If you guys are getting 350 miles per tank, i may have to reconsider my choice in cars. I believe the maxima has a 18 gallon tank, which would equate to around 19 mpg. When you say "tank", do you mean you fill it all the way up, and run out gas? Isn't it also true that a 5spd will get better milage than an auto?

from a full tank, mine will get 360 miles. its an automatic. but when the car is sputtering for gas and i go to the gas station and top it off, it will fill up with like 17.2 gallons, so if the tank is 18.5, it aint using all of the gas

i get about 200 Miles on a full tank. I use 93 ocatane BP, or Shell all times. since my mpg sucks so bad i recently had it checked out at the nissan dealership. They told me to have the car serviced. I had that done... no change. then they said have the injectors cleaned out .. done that.. no change.. then they said service tranny... did that no change. Then i changed all 6 injectors, coils, all filters, all fluids, suspension, reset ecu, new battery... and alot more.. still no change... last time i buy a nissan.

(95 Maxima GLE)

and no i dont keep my defroster, or heat on. i never use that.

anyone know what could be the prob. the dealer told me the o2 sensors are fine when they diagnosed it.

Just has a fill up today and I got 25.9 mpg
well, that's 80% highway but stuck in traffic almost everyday (stop and go atleast 30 min on the freeway)

WOT once in awhile - 25 mpg
WOT every time I see a ricer or a sport car - 23 mpg

just have an intake.

I think most cars that show empty (except those with the digital gauges) still have a gallon or 2 in the tank when the needle says "E". I usually put put in around 15 to 16.5 gallons when I fill up. Once I put in 17 gallons & was almost sputtering to the gas station. So figure approx 360 miles and approx 16.5 gallons is about 22 mpg.

Keep in mind, a lot of Maxima drivers do WOT a lot. I do it every chance I get (at a light, on the highway, etc.) so I'm sure that affects my low gas mileage.

there is a reserve tank...if your on E, or below it, your reserve tank will kick in...If its sputtering, it will still run for another 20-30 miles before it actaully dies....im hoping to get 300+ for the FIRST time in my life...im at about 220 and half way in between 1/4 left and half a tank...almost there, yay

lets not forget the car makes more power cause of the colder air...more power = less mileage

Winter Gas is oxygenated, and I believe it produces slightly less power and makes you get worse mileage, as there is less engery to be extraced from each gallon.

Cheers,
Peter

In town bumper to bumper traffic with Automatic I get about 350 miles per tank. This is all rush hour traffic. On the road I get about 500 miles per tank while cruising at 80 to 90 MPH. These averages are based on multiple tanks of gas. I keep track of miles driven and gallons of gas used. I divide the total miles in each type of driving by the total gallons used. I always fill up the first and final tank of gas at the same pump and facing the same way at the same time of day at the same station. I believe it is the most accurate way to determine gas milage. I am quite pleased with the milage. There are a few things I have done to improve milage: 1. Use AMSOIL 0W-30 Synthetic Oil in engine. 2. Installed AMSOIL 2 Stage Free Flow Air Filter. 3. Using AMSOIL Synthetic ATF in Power Steering and Automatic Transmission. 4. Check tire pressure regularly and keep it at 32 PSI in front and rear. 5. Cleaned throttle body. 6. Installed new NGK Laser Platinum Plugs PFRG5-11. 7. Replaced PCV Valve. 8. Replaced fuel filter. 9. Cleaned ground wires and connectors. The car has 55,000 miles on it so it is just broken in as Nissan engines go.

Thats some sick gas mileage you get -- I'm jealous. My 95 GLE does fine though with 162k miles I still get about 350 miles per 16 gallons.

I have a 99 5sp. SE-Limited with 60,000 miles. I get 21 around town and about 30.5 on the highway. With an 18.5 gallon tank you can go a long ways when traveling on the highway. By the way, my 30.5 is when I am running 70-80 miles an hour. So I am one of the lucky ones who had a Max that gets exceptional mileage. I hope this helps.

WTF.... you guys are lucky to get that gas mileage... imagine getting half that.. like me (198 Miles ot the gallon) i tried everything imaginable to help the mpg... i drive normal... (keep it under 2-3 rpm) i got the complete 60 k service, all new ignition coils, all new injectors, fuel filter, battery, tires, tranny service, and a lot more... what can be other possiblites. i dont have any check engine lite at the moment.

i'm not sure about this..but i dont think that is the optimun rpm range for best milage.i think for the max its like around 3.5...when you rpm is too low..i think ur engine uses more gas than it needs to...thats why when your car isnt tuned u get all that extra smoke in the low rpms fro the exhaus.its extra gas that didnt get burned.... once u get more to the mid range..your engien becoems more efficient with the gas... then when ur drivign hard u waste more gas because your goign so fast... so its like a bell shaped curve...for your next tank..try cruising around 3-4 rpm when your goin..think it should help..someone told me optimum gas rpm is right before the car starts to really pull..
