Well, I finally had time to get the tires mounted on my 16x8 late model RX7 FD rims. I got 225/50/16 Dunlop SP5000's. The package fits in the front with no spacers! I can bairly get a finger between the tire and strut tower. In the back I needed a 7/32" or 5.5mm spacer because the wheel hub comes far out it contacted the part on the rim that the center cap snaps into. Luckley my local Discount Auto Parts store carried some made by Mr. Gasket. Over all they fit flush and look pretty nice. The only problem is that the center caps wont go on because the offset is so deep. I might paint the exposed areas silver or send tire rack a diagram of what I need to see if they can hook me up with a genaric center cap?

I took it for a spin and WOW the handeling is very percise. You were right Keven! It was kinda scarey compared to the stock 15x6 steel rims with 225/60/15 w/Yokahama AVS. The stearing is soooo responsive it felt like the car was sliding, but it wasnt. I didnt have time to check the tire pressure, its probablly too high from the mounting. I bet after I set that properly It will feel even better! The good news was their was no tire rubbing what so ever. The bad news is that acording to my bathroom scale the rim and tire weighed 41lbs. I dont think that scale is acurate though (my wife agrees with me on that one, LOL). I dont think I got the 14.3lbs rims, I bet I have the 16lbs rims. Oh well my old steelies weighed 48lbs with 75% tread left. It was still a good deal though, for a racer on a budget.

Rims $355 shipped, Ebay
Tires $440 shipped, TireRack
M&B $80 (dam thats high) PepBoys
Spacers $15 Discount Auto Parts
Total ~$880

If I do find a set of the 14.3 lbs versions I can get them and put some max performance tires on them, and my look wont change!

I'm happy for now! GOOD BY HUB CAPS!!!

Pics will be posted by Wednesday.

Congrats Matt! Glad you like your new rims. Although, I really don't know too much about what it does, how it going to help you, etc. As you know Matt, I'm not a racer like you, I just play one. I more into the looks department. You said something about you never tested your 1/4 time right? With your setup, and now with these rims, I wonder what you run? 14s?

I would say {depending on the nitrus shot} it could break into the 13's maybe 13.7ish depending on driver skill which is probably zilch jk.

Last time I checked, I think he is running 80 shots of NOS. He's working up to 100 shots though.

Dam PepBoys put the tire pressure to 42psi, DUM ***'S!! After I reset it to my usual 32f/34r it felt much better. launches are much easier to control. The throttle manipulates wheel spin much more predictably. When I powershifted 2nd it didnt even chirp, just hooked. With the old set up it would spin for about a half second. I'm very pleased!
