OK, its late and I have wierd ideas so please dont give me any replies regarding my iq being similar to my shoe size or the fact that this might be the wrong forum, i did it here because the people in here seem to be the most informed and becaus i have a 4th gen. Now to my post. I've been looking at carpoint and i noticed haw cheap the J30's are going for, and how high my max is. Ive seen a 93 J30 i good condition, but with 94000 miles on it for 8500 and i figure with my max in the shape its in (after i fix the dents a certain female driver put in it) will sell for 17,500 (40000 miles)then id have a nice, rear wheel drive, luxury sedan, albeit heavier. I live in Texas so snow traction isnt a problem. The reason i like this idea so much is because (1)My dad had a 94 until 98 (when he decided he needed a suburban and a jeep) and we put a ton of miles on it and it was much smoother and better feeling than my max and it handled better and (2) because the engine is basically the same as the ones found in the 300ZX so the potential for mods seem much more pleasing, though exausts and other things would have to be fabricated because aftermarket items are limited at best for the J. But with the money i made in the trade i could even look into (with the help of my buddies and a shop) going to a twin turbo. Now that would rock, 300hp (at least) in a 4dr Luxury car and except for selling my max (blasphemy i know) i really wouldnt lose much money. What do you guys think, am i an idiot or not?

I don't like the idea personaly,

main reason being the J30 is ugly and has high miles and is slow, and if you wanted to go Turbo Charged it would be very expensive to do a costum kit and with 90K miles you may blow your engine rather quickly specialy if you do something wrong. So spend some time and think it over because I know myself and I have a new idea everyday and then I change my mind 5 minutes later haha.Good Luck!

Well, one good thing about the J30 is that it is rear wheel drive

Interesting

I always liked the J30 myself. Looks sweet from the front. I kinda doubt that it was much smoother than your 97 GLE...maybe it had softer engine mounts...I've ridden in a 99 SE-L auto maxima that I thought was very smooth. If you did sell your max for a J30, I wouldn't do any upgrading for it. Oh, and I seriously doubt it handled better, at 3550lbs. I'd just pocket the extra cash for a rainy day.

In case anyone was interested:
J30 - 3.0L V6, 210hp @ 6400rpm, 193lb-ft @ 4800rpm, RWD.
0-60 courtesy of AutoWeek of a 94 J30: 9.2 seconds.
Not a bad car, but not a performance car. You'll be missing your max after a short period of time, I'd guess.

MT says 0-60 in 8.9 secs ('92 model). Even though it is RWD, it must handle badly, because MT's slalom time for the J30 is equal to that of a Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo.

J

Personally, i've always loved the J30, I've wanted one since I turned 16.... but, cash at the time wouldnt allow it. Now I can afford a nice low mileage 97, but... the fact that I can probly get a 97SE or GLE max for atad more if I'm lucky and it has such more power.... not really but the car is lighter and the engine is better or something.

I have RWD now and will be happy to get FWD because i have to drive in buffalo winters and when I end up driving to college 45+ miles daily...

Anyhow, if it had more power or wasn't so heavy I'd get one in a heartbeat.... but max it is for me

God the J's are gorgeous

well, my friend bought a pearl white 96 J30. the car only had about 50,000 miles but the car felt a bit sluggish. i guess heavy weight of the car contributed to that kind of slowing...but i still would not trade a max for a J30. max is alot bigger than the J30. personally, when i set in the back seat of the J30...i felt like i was going to suffocate...(oh, by the way, i'm 6'2")
besides....J30s are for the 'older' people!!!

drive a max...or get a Q45!!

-peace
