Is the sunroof unit in a '97 Infinity J30 plug n play compatible with a '98 Maxima?

How about the Auto Dim Infinity rear view mirror? Plug and play too? Will I need to do some wiring?

The J30 came out in 1993 and shared the 3rd gen Maxima body. I don't know if they changed the body in 1995 when the 4th gen Maxima came out. They did switch bodies with the i30 model (the 99 was 4th gen, the 2000 was 5th gen).

I looked up part numbers and the 1997 J30 and 1997 Maxima do not use the same frame for the sunroof or the same glass. I compared the 1997 i30 with the Maxima and the part numbers are the same. I would say that you can't use the J30 sunroof parts, you would have fitment problems.

The mirror part is doable, but you would have to run wires to the mirror. The anti-glare mirror has 4 wires going to it that are not in the Nissan harness.

Thanks. I am going to have to verify that I read the "j" correctly... I was in a bit of a hurry at the time and I didn't realize that they had both the "j" and "i" lines in that timeframe.

Do you know much about the mirror functions? Does it auto dim for "night", or only when there are cars behind you with lights one? And what's up with the four wires? Power and ground make sense... are the other two tied to reverse/backup or something like that? Alternatively, any idea where I could find a wiring diagram on-line for an Infinity?

I've never heard of this car company "Infinity" that you speak of...

Here's the install instructions for the mirror. This will answer all your mirror questions. If you come up with new questions, let me know I might be able to help you as I've installed one of these.

He, he, he... Yea, Infiniti, Infinity, 220, 221, whatever it takes.

Thanks, those instructions are excellent.

So, turns out it was an i30. The funky font they use for the "I" looks more like a "J" until you realize it's an uppercase cursive "I".

But, in the meantime, they brought in a '99 Maxima and they hadn't yet dropped another car on its roof, so I was able to do some removal on that one. Sunroof is in good shape except for that bar that runs across to hold the rear seal (rusty). I have it on hold while I figure out my project.
