5spd you get about 20 more HP to the wheels, rougly, stock, and its a lot faster in the 1/4 mile too. I dont know about the trannies and what not but power gains are huge alone.

Well i dunno about the auto tranny on the max, I have a 5 spds and i love it very much and then again i never had an auto either hehe. Even thought i do a lot of city driving i still prefer the 5 speeds over the auto. Unless i drive a very luxury car i would go with manual tranny anytime.

¡§During the testing of the cars, it became obvious that there really was no comparison. Sure, they were the same vehicles with different trannies. Sure they handled the same in some tests. But, they drove and felt so incredibly different that they could have had different marketing plans and nameplates - the Maxima and the Maxima Supine. It was obvious to us that there was something bigger to this story than just a comparison. Why would someone buy a Nissam Maxima with an automatic transmission when a standard shift was so much more responsive and was considerably more fun to drive?¡¨

Holycrap, get a 5spd and run!!!!!! Take it from me, I have an auto, with almost every bolt on, and can barely beat a stock 5spd.

a 5spd is definitely faster, but if your lazy, you probably wont like it as much after a while - it depends on your personality

- 2002 Acura CL-S with 260HP: $32,000

- c0cky CL-S owner thinking he's gonna smoke your weakling 190HP Maxima in his SUPERIOR Acura: INCLUDED

- Pulling a car and a half on him to 80 mph and proving him wrong because you've got more power under the curve vs weight at low/mid-RPM's than he does thanks to your 5spd manual transmission!: PRICELESS!

There are some things a stock 4th Gen Maxima can't do, and if you have an automatic, beating a stock CL-S is one of them. For everything else there's...

...the power of 5spd baby!

A 5 speed is definately faster until you get fast then the auto is faster. Once you hit the 13 sec bracket the auto is faster no question. If you stay in the slow 14, 15 etc bracket yes the manual is faster but once you hit the 13's auto is the king.

Not a believer check out the 1/4 forum.

What makes the auto faster once you get down into the 13's? Sounds like it just hasn't been tried yet.

To answer your question, if you mean issues as in "problems", then I don't believe there are any major issues with either drivetrain, be it manual or auto. (I have a 5-spd)

I own a 5 speed and love it, however when I drove an auto Maxima it felt like it pulled better and smooththan my car in first gear.
