Had to leave the Maxima/Nissan Family :(
Had to leave the Maxima/Nissan Family :(
Well, my 1997 max was starting to have some bad tranny problems so I had to get rid of it.
Kinda sucks after all the hard work and money that I put into it. I was going to stick with nissan but got a good deal on a 2003 VW Jetta 1.8T (5spd) It is a fun car to drive, should be able to make it fast pretty easily. Any of you 4th gen max's raced a stock 1.8T before? Just curious as to how close they are in terms of performance. Take Care

The only thing keeping me away from buying a VW are the reliability issues on them. Otherwise I like them

BTW, ignore any retarded "f a g" comments you get about buying a VW.
Re: Had to leave the Maxima/Nissan Family :(
I raced one a couple months ago. I think it was stock but I'm not sure. The Blow-off valve was REALLY loud, maybe an upgrade. He kept hitting the bov after the race even though he lost. At 80mph I had about 2 cars on him.

Chip upgrades are around $300-400 and it increases the HP from 150 to around 190 or so.
Take a look at the performance kits, for about $2400 you can increase the hp from 150 to 250!! Its mainly a Chip and Turbo upgrade, but seriously, jettas are very nice cars, good choice.

a kid i know has his dads 2k1 1.8T 5speed. its a pretty quick car. when i had my old stock 96' auto maxima he beat me by like 1 1/2 2 cars upto 80 and i re-raced him with my 97' auto w/ vb. mod, CAI, b-pipe, y-pipe and pulled a little over 2 cars on him.
good choice they are nice cars. good luck
anyone know how 95-97 vr6 GTI 5speeds are stock, compared to my 97' auto with the above mods??

when i was lookin into my first car, i ran into a vw gti 1.8t. it wasnt a super fast car but it was very quick. The handeling was very impressive with the suspension upgrade. I felt like i could really hit some high speed turns but my mom and the dealer was with me. Thats another thing, even with a full load of passengers the car felt very strong. Most 4cyl's i know feel week with a full load of passengers. The gti i think is a couple hundred pounds lighter than the jetta, but im sure the jetta has some good handeling.
Re: Had to leave the Maxima/Nissan Family :(
VWs are super, thanks for asking!

It wasnt the first time I had tranny problems, I already replaced my tranny once before. Plus the car had 120K miles on it, so just decided to get a new one. lol
