Battery or alt. problem?

I have had a problem starting my car a couple of times in this nice cold weather. It will crank but very slow. If I throw the charger on it for a minute it fires right up. I have gotten the recall for the alt. but I didn't know if 'not charging properly' was part of the problem, I know it can burst into flames or something like that. Any opinions?

Thanks

might be the alternator, but one way to check if it's the battery you can go to Pep boys and get the battery tested, i think they do it for free ... if the battery is ok then you know it's the alternator

its your battery, when we put in the alternator at nissan we usually check the alternator. if you have a volt tester put in on the battery and see if it has charge but be sure to take of the surface charge

Surface charge? Not exactly sure what you mean by that.
