No power to cigarette lighter

No power to cigarette lighter
Hey guys... I just bought an Infiniti I30t (which is mechanically identical to the Maxima, despite what the dealer who sold it to me attempted to pitch!), and as it turns out, the *ONE* thing that wasn't tested... is the one thing that doesn't work.
I need power to the lighter! My Escort 8500 hasn't been plugged in now in over a week!! My leadfoot can no longer be content with only 10 mph over the limit... my soul screams for 20 or 30 over... which of course isn't safe, without my trusty Escort!
I'm not too mechanically inclined, and the tools I have available are a computer repair toolkit, a flathead screwdriver, a stripped phillips head, and a really pathetically small hammer... any suggestions on what to check, before I go and spend megabucks (well, on my salary) at an Infiniti dealer??
Thanks!

Also check if it's plugged in!
Remove the ashtray.
Remove the trim around the gear shifter by using a wide flat head screwdriver with a thin cloth over it. You will then have access to the lighter socket - mine was not plugged in when I got the car- - probably because the seller removed the aftermarket stereo, and didn't bother reconnecting the lighter when he put the dash back together..

Fuse???
Where is the fuse located? I mean, in my various snoopings, I found like three different fuseboxes... I'm afraid to go into them, and I didn't find anything that said "Cigarette Lighter"... what should I be looking for?
Thanks...
Thanks...

take out the fuse box cover and there should be some word written on the cover
or you could just take out the fuse in the box one by one and see if any of the fuse is bad (i think it's one of the blue one - 15 amp?)

See diagram on inside of the removable panel door-
It will be listed as: "CIG LIGHTER" in the "ACC" subgroup
1st column on the left side
5th fuse down from the top
15 amps
Use the little white, plastic fuse pulling tool (lodged in it's mount on the right side of the panel) to easily remove and inspect the fuse. It pulls out from the panel with a little effort.
Replace the fuse with (another 15amp only) if it's blown. If not, you may need to remove the console & check the connections in back, as someone else suggested. If that's the case, say the word - there are several good links we can provide that clearly illustrate how to do this.
Enjoy your 'new2u' I30 & welcome to maxima.org!

If you have a manual I can give you easier directions on checking to see if the connector is connected to the back of the socket, I have had this problem also, it was the connector.

Replaced
Hey guys... I went out to Autozone and got a replacement fuse (4 of them, for 2.99, package deal!)... didn't work...
For those of you who want to help me remove the trim, the car is a '96 Infiniti I30t, automatic. I don't wanna damage any of my faux wood trim in the removal... should I take it to Infiniti at this point?
thanks...

Scroll down thru the thread until you see the black and white diagram & how-2 on removal of the stereo/dash trim panels. Steps 1 & 2 should be all you need. You might need to do step 3 to gain access to the cig. lighter plug area. Not sure - You'll know when you've opened it up & you can see.
As far as "prying" the edge of the trim goes, I would use a wide, flat screwdriver with a sotf cloth wrapped around the blade edge (at least 1 layer) to avoid scratching the panel.

Yep, it's in the panel on the underside of the dash, to the left of the steering column:
