how many 4th gen 5spds?

i was looking for a 4th generation 5spd Maxima and came up short on my findings. how many of them did they make in a manual setup and how hard is it to get a hold of one? i would prefer a base model GXE 5spd, but am having some trouble, could someone tell me the numbers?

i heard that 1 of every 25 max's or so are stick. i got lucky and bought my bro's 97, because he couldn't afford payments and school at the same time. Now he's out, and bought a 5spd 99 se. mine is 5spd 97 se

Yeah, there are at least 10-20 automatic Maxima's on the market for every single 5spd you'll find. I completely lucked out on finding my 99SE 5spd, though

www.autotrader.com

They're out there, but just not enough of them to really have your pick of color, trim, and options.

I was in the same situation... looking for a 5spd tranny. I wish I would've come onto the org before I had bought my Autotragic Max.

I looked for 4 months after a 97-99 Maxima SE 5-speed. I finally found one at an auction, which I purchased for a great price. They're really hard to find, it took me a long time. The classifieds here are probably your best bet to go.

Where you're located also makes a hell of a difference...I'm in the same search as you are and I've found just about 3 in my area....I'm leaning towards one, but there was a clean GXE that I saw with 90k miles...also check cars.com

Each year, Nissan only sold between 7-15% of Maxima's with sticks. Its worth finding one though. I drove an Auto and it was considerably slower than my 5-speed. Good luck.

I got lucky and found mine at used car dealership. I had seen it sitting there the night before i went to look at it, so i came on the org here and checked out what kinda of times 5 speeds were getting compared to autos. Lets just say that whole night i was praying it was a sitck The 1st thing i did was when i got there was look in the window, and there was the 5 speed i wanted

found mine through www.autotrader.com

they are out there.. although a bit hard to locate.. especially if you are picky and want a select color combo + options and trim..

all i wanted was a 5 speed + a sunroof + a black interior + preferably an SE..

exterior color didn't matter.

I got 3 of the 4 things. 97 5 speed SE with a sunroof as the only option... the interior is tan though, but that's going to change soon For the money I paid I think I could invest 2 grand into it and still end up with a fairly good deal..

look around, and hold out

you will definately find one

You can always buy a cheap automagic and covert it to 5 speed... sure its gonna cost you probably a few grand, but its worth it if you cant find a 5-speed..

I actually found mine at a auto auction. i went to the same acution threee weekends in a row waiting to find a maxima that was a 5spd and black or white. All the ones that i came across were gold.. huuuu..nasty.. so after three weeks a black GXE 5spd rolled in with a crushed front corner. I said thats the one.. ill fix it and be on my way.... 700 dollars later for the repairs and looks good as new...

When I was looking for mine 2 years ago around this time. I came across several of them. Ended up getting the one with the lowest milage. The dealer said a Black SE in good condition was hard to come by, but I didn't believe him. Grab an Auto shopper magizine and start looking through there. Good Luck.

I waited almost 5 months for my 5 spd. GXE. I'm in Milwaukee so most of the people up here have trucks. 5 spd. is well worth the wait though. Better gas mileage......faster acceleration......more fun
Great combination. I just looked in the classifieds for 5 months, looking for a 5 spd. under 5 Grand, but I found one for $6,000 and I jumped on it. Keep looking

i definantly got a better price at the auction then if i were to buy it at a dealer. But dont forget that my car had been in a acident. but still had a clear title. i really dont knwo why the priviouse owner wouldnt fix the dent and keep the car.

I kept my eye's open for nearly 2 years I was picky and wanted a 99 SE-L in black with black leather and all the options with low miles and fed emissions in good condition. I opted for one almost perfect, heated seats is the only thing I didn’t get. Where I live I almost never see them. I drove 3 hours to get one near Chicago. Well worth my wait in my opinion. The stock '99 5-speed toasted my '97 auto with mods, on the way home from purchase.

wow, i can't believe everyone has so much trouble finding a 5spd Max. even though i kinda fell into mine by accident (and i'm so glad i did), everytime i look in the classifieds there is atleast one or two 5spd SE's... and i've seen plenty in Auto Trader too. i live in Raleigh, NC... so if anyone is interested i'd be happy to help someone out.

I had a hard time in 96 trying to buy one new. Found one in Tennessee, dealer in GA loaned me a max and I drove up there and picked it up.

96 5sp Black/black SE, loaded including ABS, which was even harder to find.
