Place Racing CAI

Ok I have been looking at cold air intakes for the maxima and I like place Racing's unit but I was wondering how hard it was to put a different filter on it. Foam filter elements are an extremely bad idea so I would have to change that immediately.

I heard that the Stillen FBI works better

Seriously, my CAI came with a K&N. That's because I bought it way back when. You shouldn't have any problems finding a replacement filter for it.

Ok I figured it was just as simple as a filter change but I thought maybe they had made it more difficult (i.e. special fittings) to switch filters since I am sure they have an agreement with the manufacturer. I hadn't been able to find a good pic of where the filter met the tubing though so I thought I would ask.

All you need is any universal filter with a 3" inlet. pepboys and all speed shops should carry 3" filters

shameless plug:

I've got one for sale in the 4th gen for sale forum I'll go to $100 shipped or $75 + shipping, whichever is cheaper. Recently recharged filter, good as new!

Basically, cost. There was a thread discussing all the filter options. They were very similar in terms of power, but quite a bit different in terms of filtering ability. The Apexi was the best for filtration, K&N was a close 2nd, and the foam was a distant 3rd. Hp from all was almost the same.

Yeah the problem is foam elements(like the one they use now) break down over time. I personally don't want to be picking up bits of foam and sucking em into my engine.
