I was wondering if the 4th Gen Max engine has variable valve timing. If so, what other advance engine technology does it possess!

No VVT

No VVT. The engine is lightweight, all-aluminum construction, has dual overhead camshafts, four valves per cylinder, and coil-on-plug ignition.

VVT

The valves are also non adjustable in the sense that you cannot adjust a screw to achieve different clearances for your valves. The camshaft opens/closes each valve directly and their clearances are achieved with the use of shims in between the cam lobe and valve stems.

Well, considering how much Honda hypes their VTEC system, and how much Toyota hypes VVTi and VVTi-L (although I'm sure the majority of this country has no idea what they mean), them I'm sure that had any Nissan's been equipped with VVL, there would have been much marketing hype surrounding the use of such technology.

There are, however, certain Nissan models in Japan (who's names elude me for the moment) with variable-valve timing equipped VQ's under the hood. I think they're referred to as VQ25DD, VQ30DD, etc...

I really don't think the VQ needs VVL though. It's very torquey, revs quickly, and maintains that characteristic smoothness throughout the powerband. It's only short coming was the fact that it runs out of breath short of redline, but the enhancements for the 2k model year (most notably the variable length intake manifold) fixed that.

Nissan has a monster of the SR20DE, it's called SR20VE, it produces 190hp, and has 'Nissans version of VTEC' Sport Compact car june 200 or one of the ones which looks at Sentra Cams. same as max but I am not sure on the torque output, I am sure it is no where near our Max.

Thanks for the information guys! Presently I'm driving a '93 Integra. This coming Friday, I will be trading in my Teg and driving home in a '96 Max. I cannot wait for that torquey engine!

I don't think Infiniti hyped it much, but...

The 1st gen Q45 also had vvt. I dunno about the current one, tho.

What?????

NmexMAX what are you talking about that the SR20VE engine has 190hp, its no where near that. The Sentra has 115hp @ 6000 rpm and 108 lbs./ft. tq @ 4000 rpm. The Maxima is far different with 190hp @ 5600 and 205 lbs./ft. tq @ 4000

Re: What?????

You're thinking of the SR20DE, the SR20VE is a Japan only engine.
