Where to mount the air temp sensor????

Look at this http://www.almand.net/html/photos.html those intake parts were bought off ebay and the incoming air temp sensor is still in the original place. (in the intake air line that went to the original filter box) I know on my 240SX I mounted it in the top of the K&N filter (it was a Stillen unit that had a place drilled in the top of the filter for this sensor) Where can I mount it now?!?!

It is that little diode looking thing that comes off the MAF. It should have two wires and it was on the side of your stock airbox.

I'll post some pics, But I installed mine inside the top of the cone filter. Had to lengthen the wire. (Only 2 of them once stripped) and everything works fine, slighty better gas mileage too because the car was running too rich....

Quote from Page EC-120 of the 1996 Nissan Maxima field service manual:
"This sensor [Comment: intake air temperature sensor] is not directly used to control the engine system. It is used only for on-board diagnosis."

In other words, it does nothing to control the fuel mixture or ignition timing or anything else that would result in adjusting how the engine runs.

Do you know what that means, 'on board diagnosis'? It sounds like their saying that the intake temp really doesn't do anything. Why is it there, and how would it be usefull to 'diagnose' anything but problems with your car reading the air temp?

PS. I know you didn't write the manual, only asking if you know what they mean.

Does this apply to 97's as well. The car wasn't idling correctly when it was hanging down low.

Maybe my car wasn't idling correctly before it and I didn't notice?
