Startup question

Hi,
Yeah I am a newbie.. I just bought my first Maxima, 98 and yes for the purists I know I know it is an automatic but I just movied to San Fran and did not feel like dealing with those hills and traffic. Anyhow everything about the car is great problem is if the car is shut off for a while (couple hours or so) and I start the engine the engine kicks on and then just dies, it doesnt idle low then stalls just wont kick and stay. If I give it a little bit of gas when I turn the ignition it starts and stays. Any suggestions... the car is still under the dealership warranty and I bought an extened Nissan warranty but something tells me it my be a simple matter just for the fact the engine runs perfectly other than this situation. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Clean your throttle body, goto www.motorvate.ca for info and pics. Very easy to do. If you don't get a perfect "warm" start after you clean that, then replace the engine coolant temp sensor.

One of the signs your engine coolant temp sensor is not calibrated correctly is a hard warm start. Not hot or cold, but luke warm engine. Sometimes this does not throw a check engine light. The sensor is working, but not giving proper readings to your cars ECU. Sort of like when the calibration of a thermometer is off, you look at it, it tells you the temp but it's off 5 deg. or so.

I have the same problem and i've already cleaned the throttle body and replaced the temp sensor. And its still happening. I've heard alot of ppl talk about it though so i think its a pretty common problem, just give it gas and forget it...j/k if someone does figure out the real reason that would be helpful though, It really seems to me like its a fuel thing, like the engines not getting enough fuel to spark until you give it some gas. I have a new fuel filter too so thats not the problem, and clean injectors (or at least i've treated them when i changed oil). So i really have no clue what to try next. In jan i'm going to nissan for a full diagnosis and maybe they'll be able to tell me. Its gonna be my pre-turbo check, and if compression and everything comes back clear i'm gonna be turbo'ing sometime late jan. wish me luck
