STS questions for those who have one or know something about them..

I want to get a short throw by x-mas because I have to drive drive down to Virginia to visit relatives over the holidays which comes out to about nearly 16 hrs of driving when all is said and done. I was looking at Custommaxima's PaceSetter: http://www.custommaxima.com/PaceSetter.htm and was pretty sure i was gonna go ahead and buy that one, but then i found this: http://store.yahoo.com/southwestauto...smaxquik1.html and i was wondering what the difference was between the two, in terms of quality, adjustability? Finally, when i told my friends at school about buying one they said that if I wanted they could just cut off a certain length off my stock shifter and rethread it using the machines at my shcool and it would be the same thing basically. Has anyone done the latter, if so how'd it come out, is it a danger to do this? I was just wondering cause i'm new to STS's cause this is my first manual. If i shouldn't cut the stock, which of the two STS's is the better one? Which of the two do more people on the Org have? Thanks guys.

The two links you posted are the exact same product. Hmm... I wonder where you'll be ordering from

As for cutting the stock shifter.. Yes it will make your shifter shorter and the throws a little shorter, but the throws won't be nearly as short as with a real STS.

The Pacesetter works by moving the pivot point of the shifter, not just making the shifter shorter.

First of all, please for the love of whatever,

Secondly, you can cut it if you want, or you can buy the kit. I have an STS and a couple things you want to keep in mind... shifting will become stiffer and I recommend you switch tranny oil to Redline MT-90 because it will make shifting alot easier and smoother.
