Vehicle Speed Sensor

Anyone know how much a vehicle speed sensor will cost? I got the CEL light yesterday and reset it it hasn't come back yet. My speedometer and cruise control all work(sometimes I have to play with the cruise control to get it to work though).

Nissan improperly diagnosed the speed sensor as a problem on my car and I ended up buying the part and not having them do the work. It was around 35 or 40 bucks. It just sits in my parts cabinet, since mine is still good. They don't look very difficult to put in at all.

I had (still have) a slight tranny leak on my 5-speed (NOT coming from the drive axles). Nissan had replaced the park/neutral switch a year ago. I took it back in to them, suspecting it to be the same problem. It would be under warranty, right? Well, they come out and tell me that there is a leak around the speed sensor. It was a special order part so they ordered it after I pre-paid. They said they'd call when it came in. I went home that day and saw that around the speed sensor there was absolutely ZERO oil leakage. I picked up the part when it came in and never went back to the service department again. So it is sitting in my cabinet until I need it, if I ever do. Nice service department, huh?

ok ! I was driving today and my CEL starts to blink so I stop and immediately do a diagnostic. The codes I got were 0104 & 0304. The car seems to run fine. Does the VSS0104 cause the CEL to blink

All I know is that one trouble code or problem can trigger another to come on when it may not be the root cause of the CEL coming on. The only sure way is to narrow down where the problem is coming from to see if it is just one or both trouble codes. Does anyone know how to check a speed sensor? And what malfunctions in them so that they need replacing?

My CEL tripped 10 months ago and Nissan said it was a speed sensor malfunction. I decided not to change it and waited for the sensor to die completely. I have driven 8000 miles since then and everything still works (fingers crossed) - every 45 days or so the CEL trips with the same code and I just take it to Autozone, double check the code, and reset the computer. You may still have a lot of life left in the sensor before actually changing it.

If I remember correctly, the Haynes manual indicates it is a simple do it your selfer. It says to remove the old and install the new. You're thinking, "duh!" But get your hands on a Haynes manual. Costs around 15-20 bucks and it is well worth the money.

yes OBDII 0104 will trip the CEL. So will the 0304 knock sensor circuit fault code
