Limited Slip differential?
Limited Slip differential?
I am in the process of buying and replacing the CV joints on my 96 SE and the Napa is asking me if I have traction control or not. Also, another question is whether or not I have ABS. Is there a quick and easy way to tell if I have either?
Does your brake pedal pulsate when your lock em up on either snow or like wet leaves ?? if it does pulsate then you do have ABS...an easier way to check is too look on the right side of the engine right under the throttle body, the main control unit is there
Locking or not, Have you even done two wheel burnouts before ?

Just got the car 3 days ago and no, I haven't burned out either tire. Thanks for the advice on the ABS control unit. I will look for it. Was traction control an option when the car was purchased?

Go like 25mph and slam on the brakes. Do you skid? If you do you dont have abs. The switch for tcs will be somewhere near your shifter. Either in the middle of where three buttons would go by the armrest. The other two are for heated seats. or in newer models i think there will be a switch closer to the shifter on the passenger side more. It should say tcs but a lot of maximas dont have it.
No, 98/99 maximas have traction control. The traction control button is on the dash behind the wiper control. 96 maximas don't have traction control. You probably don't have LSD unless it's a canadian maxima or a I30.

Traction control is not associated with a limited slip differential. Napa is probably refering to your differential and in your case you most likely have a standard differential. Only the I30t or Canadian maxima's came with Limited Slip Differentials. The Limited Slip Diff does use different drive shafts.
Traction Control electronically throttles down your engine when it detects slip, I believe it uses the same signals from your ABS sensors, it's got nothing to do with your axels.

Re: Limited Slip differential?
Napa online says the following regarding LSD:
"To Verify a Vehicle w/ Limited Slip Differencial, Remove Drivers Side Axle Assembly. The Inboard Joint Will Have Double Splines. A Vehicle w/ Single Splines Will be w/o Limited Slip Differential."

RAXLES uses new parts when remanufacturing the half shaft, most of the parts houses sell reworked joints.
