Y-Pipe and Check Engine Light

Y-Pipe and Check Engine Light
I have the opportunity to buy a used Y-pipe for my '97 SE.
The seller said he took it off because his check engine light kept coming on. I do not know what year his car was other than 95-99 or what brand y-pipe it is. There are provisions for the O2 sensors.
Has anyone had any CEL problems with their y-pipes?

...The CEL wouldn't be for the y-pipe, it would only be for the O2 sensors located in the y-pipe...
I realize this. I want to know if anyone gets a CEL when they put a Y-pipe on. This would most likely be caused by the non-existance of the pre-cats on the aftermarket y-pipe. I would be interested in putting this y-pipe on, but not if I have to deal with CEL problems.

I got a CEL a week after installing my pipe, but that was for a bad coil pack....i can only assume it was coincedental though.....Other than that, I have had no CEL's come on with it, unless I've caused them (air intake sensor, auto line pressure solenoid valve, etc.)....The only way the CEL would trip would be mishandling of the o2 sensors during re-installation.

My check engine light has been on ever since i have had my Y-pipe on. the code is 0111(1998 maxima). that code is the EVAP purge flow monitor. I do not know how to fix this. I have replaced all the sensors associated with the Evap canister, the only thing left is the Evap cannister itself.
My code however does not affect performance, just the light stays on. I assume that with my intake and y-pipe that there is too much air and exhaust going and coming throught the engine so the ECU thinks that the cars Air/Intake system is broken when in reality it is not.
I have a JWT intake
Budget Y-pipe
custom made B-pipe (w/out resonator)
2.5" muffler
if anyone would now why my light stays on, any help would be greatly appreciated. But i have not found anything to fix this problem.

I've had my Y-pipe on for about a half year with no problems.
I just had my car inspected in Texas, and it passed with no codes.
If your car is 96 and newer they only run a OBD-II for codes. But you probably already know that you would pass once the car is warmed up.
Get the Y, his code was for somthing not related.

i am not trying to discourage you Jeff from getting one, i was just saying that mine has been on, but it does not affect performance.

If your CEL is on, YOU WILL automatically fail emissions.

I should have been more clear about that. The Y-pipe will not cause you to have CEL light. If you break an O2 sensor while installing it then your CEL will come on and you will fail inspestions. But just having a Y-pipe on will not cause you to have a CEL.
