HID beam patterns
HID beam patterns
Hi everyone,
Before I go to sleep I had a question in mind. Could anyone provide me with pics of HIDs and their beam patterns from behind or on the side of the car? I really want to get a good feeling as to where the light really shoots out. I'm sure it will compare nothing to a stock HID lighting system (BMW, Lexus, Audi) but I'm still curious. If you're still not sure what I'm referring to, I'm talking about the cutoff lines on either side of the car. For example, if a BMW 7 Series with HID light drove past me, I would see his HID light beam cover ALL of the lanes of the freeway, in the sideways direction.
Anyway, thanks!

I don't have a picture for you, but after reaiming my hanabi 6500k's the other day, I can tell you that no matter how you adjust it, the Maxima will never have the spread out beam pattern of a BMW or Lexus. The reflector system lets a lot of stray light very high and even at the maximum lowest point of adjustment, it still has a bit of glare.
I would not go any bluer than 6500k, which is noticably bluer than stock HID systems from Acura or BMW.

I second that notion, I tried to adjust my HIDS in every manner speaking and it's not the same, i turned the bulbs upside down and to the left and right and adjusted the lens but nothing works, i have pretty good lighting since the adjust though, just see what works for you.
I'm actually not going to invest in them just yet. I think I'd rather save money for a decent H4 or equavalent headlamp set, such as the 1 piece Cefiro headlamps, or even the Cefiro headlamp w/ the stock clearance lamps. Then, I would be sure to get a nice beam pattern and decent lighting.
On a side note, I never realized how nice the Acura 3.5RL HIDs look...they look VERY nice and IMO even outshined a 2k3 3 Series when they were side by side on the highway. Both of their beams were amazing, but the RL's almost had cutoff lines which were perpendicular to the direction of the car.

Something interesting I noticed is that the 2k2 Maxima and I35 seem to have rather poor HID's. Perhaps its the beam pattern, but the light seems very diffuse. Next to a 3-series with HID, the BMW lights seem superior, as are *gasp*, the 3.2TL's.
you are in luck
i have just the pictures you ask
it is just a click away
halogens are a thing of the past

Do you blind other drivers with this setup or do you have them aimed pretty well?

Yes, seeing your pictures actually made me write up this thread. I'd be interested in seeing a beam pattern from say, outside the rear passenger door, facing foward. thanx for the pic though
