I recently raced an AUTO Z28 and beat him by a car and a half. My car is totaly stock, but I did Power shift. If i beat this car that ways about 3400 pounds whats to say I cant beat a Impala SS. It has the same corvete engine except even heavier weighing @ 4010. Has any one every raced one of those. I want to prove to my freinds that I can win.

Either he's a BAD, I mean a really bad driver, his car is BROKEN or he just let you win. A bone stock 4th gen Maxima will not outrun a LT1 Z-28.

Auto LT1 Z's run mid 14's stock on average. Your car probubly does about 16 stock. The z28 is a much faster car.

The Impala SS is SLOWER then the Z28's. It has an iron block/heads, and makes 260hp. The Z28 is significantly lighter, has aluminum heads, and makes 287HP. The Impala SS gets to 60 in about 7 seconds. 4010lbs. seems a little heavy...my buddy has a '95 Impala SS with a ram air and catback and his car hauls some nice @ss.

I have my doubts as to whether or not an auto LT1 Z is a mid 14 second car in stock form. The 6spds are only trapping about 96-99, I'd put money on 7 of 10 autos running 15s on any given day.

BTW is the thread starter's max auto or 5spd?

The 94 Z28 does 14.7, so in this case, it runs 14s', not 15's. As to the maxima beating the Z28, I was a witness when this happend, and the race lasted a block or two. After the Z28 lost, he didnt want to race again. I was surprised that the maxima won, i guess the z28 had a bad launch. The maxima is a 99 auto btw.

Probubly just got too much wheelspin.

Nealoc, Dave B. had a '94 Auto Z28 and hit high 13's with a few bolt ons.

Now craig, dont twist my words. I said stock, as in UNCHANGED from the factory. Gears, torque converter, lid, headers and exhaust on that car probably shave about 1.5 seconds off it's 1/4 mile time. I'm talking about completely bone stock. Not basic mods.

how did the auto max beat a Z28, ,maybe bad driver, too much wheelspin,or his car was in bad condition.

Well, in this case I can shed some light on these cars because I own one. Most auto LT1 Z28s run mid-low 14s from the factory, most 2.73 geared cars run about 14.2-14.4@about 98. Most 3.23 geared cars run about 13.9@99-100. Most 6 spd cars run 13.7-13.8@101-102. There are many 2.73 geared cars that have seen 13.8@98 under good conditions on stock tires. So NEaloc, you're right, they're not really mid 14 second cars, they're low 14 second cars. and whatever 6 spds you are seeing trapping at 96-99 are being driven inctredibly poorly. In this case it seems obvious you dont know too much about these cars. Craig Mack seems to have good knowledge on them though. In this case the guy driving the Z let you win, or was just messing with you. My Z28 has MINOR bolt ons (CAI, headers, cat, catback are the only things that add power) and with a stock drivetrain (no gears) it runs 13.2@107.
