Quick question for 5spd owners...

Is your shifter boot template (ring, the one that maintains shape of the bottom of the boot) attached to the shifter trim piece of the dash (the black plastic piece that surrounds the shifer) or seperatley held up by something else?
Thanks,
-Cyrus

Yes, the ring on the bottom of the boot is held by plastic prongs that are under the trim piece. you have to remove the trim to unsnap the boot.

But is the ring connected to the trim piece? Or is it a seperate piece? Reason being I want to buy the 5spd trim piece to put on my auto, and there needs to be a ring on the shifter trim itself to hold the boot on.
Thanks,

The ring is on the boot itself...not the trim piece.

Hope that's what you're asking.

The ring is connected to the boot and the boot and ring is all connected to the trim itself as a unit. So to answer your original question, yes its connected. Need pics? I have an extra trim/boot sitting in my room. btw the dealer charges like $80 for the trim/boot assembly.

oh, I forgot to tell you, If you wanted to put the 5sp trim/boot on your auto, you will have to take out the auto stuff thats under there including the auto trim, shift indicator(prnd21)

Really? I don't see how the PRND21 indicator trim would interfere with the 5spd shifter trim, especially since it's bigger. But obviously you do because you have one. Another main concern is if the shifter will be able to go into Park and 1 easily (or if the 5spd plate has less vertical movement). I know the dealer is a rip, I was hoping to find a used one. Anyways it will fit if I just take out the PRND21 thing right?
Thanks,
-Cyrus

buy a cheaper aftermarket boot and use a coathanger to fabricate your own holder. My shift boot is like everyone else explains; there's a boot w/ a metal square sewn into the base. This metal square then "locks" into tabs on the underside of the shift console. GO to my website for a pic of the metal frame itself. http://mywebpages.comcast.net/sricketson1/

the auto indicator will not allow the trim to fully snap down since it will be hitting the boot/ring assembly. 5speed plate has MORE movement so you dont have to worry about any movement issues trust me. All you need to do is take out the indicator assembly and get a 5sp trim and boot and your all set.
