I take my car to redline at least once on just about every trip across town I take.
I've had ZERO engine problems for 160,000 miles.

Well, I don't drive around bouncing off the rev limiter. I have an auto.

LOL! I just thought of some old fun I had. I had a 91 Saab 900 before my maxima. It was having transmission problems on and off. It was a 5 spd and we were just going to donate it. So before I got rid of it I decided to have a little fun.
NEEE NEEE NEEE NEEEE NEEEE.... as the saab goes down the street in 1st gear bouncing off the rev limiter
NEEE NEEE NEEE NEEE NEEE.... as I dump the clutch at 6000 rpm sitting there roasting my pirelli's into slicks
It doesn't get much more fun than intentionally trying to kill a car
I redline a lot! LOL
My car has almost 80,000 miles on it and ive had it for about 12,000 of those miles. I have had to fix a lot of oil leaks in my engine recently (about 1200 dollars) Im not sure if that was because of my driving or just because of the wear on the car. Not sure. I ususally only redline when I am racing people which is often.

There is NOTHING wrong with going right up to the "redline" provided:
1) The engine is fully warmed up.
2) You don't "redline" on a downshift without blipping the throttle first to smooth the transition. Bad Bad Bad.
3) Your gear changes are smoooooooth.
And if you are driving the **** out of it, I'd bet a good synthetic oil every 5k would be in order.

Man you guys are brave. I got my car like 3 months ago, only put about 1K on the meter, and its got almost 90k on it now. I'm affraid to redline, keep my baby in tip top shape. I usually shift about 3k, and when i wanna burn someone, i only take it up to 4. although I dont always 'burn' people. i guess i just a scardy-cat.

Yeah, don't be afraid to drive this car hard. I've got 112,000 miles (65,000 hard driven by me). My car gets mad when I drive it too gently.
There's guys with tons of miles with superchargers and nitrous and tons of track runs. They generally have no engine problems directly attributable to this. This car is so much more fun to drive when you really push it.

I bounced off of the rev limiter today on accident (going in reverse). I was doing some parking brake maneuvers in the snow, hehe. I got a full 720 going in reverse, but hit the rev limiter once while doing this. Is this significantly bad and did I hurt the engine? Should I get anything checked out? The engine was fully warmed when I did this.
I saw the topic and thought this was about redline tranny fluid
redlining the engine is not bad as long as its warmed up properly, as others have said, going past the redline or bouncing off the limiter is not good.

I may redline 1st but only cause the f-er races to redline before i get a chance to shift.

If I'm going for e.t.'s, I never stay in past 5600RPM. . .

If you are NA, you really dont have much to worry about. Engines are designed and tuned VERY conservatively from the factory.

My tach read 8k plus. It didnt seem to do anything. VQ's are tough motors
