I've noticed that when I first accelerate (say the tranny is in first or second) I feel quite a bit of vibration in the floor and the gas pedal. My 97 was smooth as silk, but this thing is rougher than my 91 Ford explorer. It happens between 1500 and 2000 rpms under moderate engine loads (up hills, initial acceleration). What could be causing this?

 

I don't know what it is, but I know that my '95SE is definitely not as smooth as she once was. Even at idle, I can feel slight vibration through the shifter, pedals and steering wheel that i can also feel at low speeds too. Don't know if this is the same as what you are experiencing. When I accelerate, the car is pretty smooth, but the low level vibration seems always to be there... perhaps normal for an older car? My dad's 98 is as smooth as a baby's bottom.

 

Check spark plugs or igntion coils, before it eventually gets worse to a bigger vibration, or even worse, engine jerking

 

Oh, maybe that's it. I have 96k on the original plugs.

 

 

make sure none of the motor mounts have failed.

 

Your fuel injectors may be dirty. Go to a lube shop and get an injector flush (may be called fuel system clean). And no they are not the ones you poor into your gas tank. My uncle had his maxima done and the difference is night and day. (he had slight vibration too)

 

I have a 98 SE and I recently noticed mine started to vibrate also. I have 68000 on it. Today when I was changing the belts ( which was a major pain thanks to the power steering) I notice that the harmonic balancer had some dry rot on the rubber and made me think that this might be it. Just something to look at.

 

my 97 pearl white se maxima vibrates only when i stop at like astop sighn.. or a redlight.. this only happnes once n a while.. i dont get it.. (what exactly should i ask for at the lube shop)

 

My 96 with 102000 miles isn't as smooth as I use to be. I attribute some of the vibration to tighter WSP Y-pipe flex section that doesn't dissipate the engine vibrations as well as the stock Y-pipe flex section. I feel more "graininess" through the shifter and pedals and at idle I an feel a hint of vibration. I notice all of this gets worse in colder weather. I wish I could find out how to take away some of the graininess.
