Today I was on the freeway doing about 70-75 and I really noticed that my steering is really really loose. It seems like I'm driving a go-cart or something... I was actually having a hard time staying in the lines so I had to stay over in the right lane and slow down to about 60 (speed limit was 70) so I could keep it from going over the lines. There is just a lot of extra 'slack' in the wheel. Going above 60 I can turn it a bit from side to side and the car does not respond.
I searched, and people mentioned getting new wheels (18") to make your steering tighter. Well, I won't be able to afford that for a few months. Someone also suggested new rack-and-pinion. I doubt there is anything wrong with mine, but I don't know. Another suggestion was a FSTB.
Would a FSTB actually tighten up my steering? I thought it only helped reduce body roll and helped maintain control around corners.
Is there anything else that can be done to tighten up the steering?

FSTB will definetly help steerin more agressively, u can get a good deal off ebay around $25 for a decent FSTB... but the function for FSTB is more for cornerin and turning, if ur driving straight and it still feels lose then u probably need to check out ur axle.

if a FSTB does seem to help "tighten" up your problem, it's not fixing the problem. When someone suggested a new rack and pinion system..they were most likely correct. Bigger wheels with tires would increase your turn in RESPONSE but not fix your slack problem which all start in the pinion.Originally posted by co_maxima98

on a side note..what kind of go carts do you drive? go carts typically have VERY responsive steering as it is a solid connection from the steering wheel to the front wheels.

Go have your alignment checked by a front end shop. They'll find out if anything is lose as well that way. Something ain't right if you have that much play.
uh...is this a new feeling for you? If they car didn't feel like that say a month ago, then there is a problem that needs to be fixed. Possibly alignment, tire rotation/balance, new tires....
Ah the Maxima's weakpoint - steering feel. Put the $7 Energy Suspension FSB bushings on your car and it will feel a little tighter. IMO all the strut braces will do nothing to improve steering feel, they only improve cornering.

Sway bushings
Larger wheels and lower profile tires
Lowering springs/struts
These will improve on-center feel.
Things to consider. Was it windy out when you were driving? That will influence the car's overall feel. Were you driving on a road you usually don't travel on? Certain roads will induce a floaty feel you're describing.
