Y-Pipe / Exhaust Wrapping How To - motorvate.ca

If anyone is looking for pics & how to wrap your y-pipe/exhaust look here:
www.motorvate.ca on the left menu click on "engine", then "Y-pipe exhaust wrapping"

I wrapped my exhaust way back in June, and updated the web site tonight.

Take Care,
Max VQ

I know your main reason for doing the wrap is to reduce the slight hiss. But after having read the article from DEI's website, I'm still scratching my head over how the wrap reduces the underhood temperature. Do you think it's as a result of faster exhaust outflow?

In addition, do you think the wrap might trap moisture to bring about rust more quickly to the pipes?

Metal is a pretty good radiator and absorber of heat, the metal in the y-pipe absorbs heat from the exhaust gasses and reemits it into the engine bay. With a wrap around the exhaust that doesn't emit heat as well in the form of infrared energy, the heat stays in the exhaust pipe, and consequently absorbs less heat from the gasses and instead enjects it out with the exhaust. The pipes downstream then see more heat and emit more heat intead of the y-pipe. In some states I think this isn't legal, I don't know why, it would make the cats warm up faster and become effective sooner reducing pollution.
