Was it cold that morning? Did you check your battery? Your battery is used to start your car not your alternator.

Kinda easy to get to....once you take out a few parts , its mainly under all those stock ram intake parts (assuming you still have it). Heres a write up on it:

http://www.motorvate.ca/auto/maxima/starter/starter.htm

Keep in mind this shows you how to fix some grinding noise from the starter, but also has some good pics on where the starter is and how to get to it. Hope this helps.

Ok, my old car had this starter "clicking" sound for about 9 years, even after goin through 3 brand new batteries and 4 brand new starters. Basically, in the morning, or when the temprature is hot, the car wouldn't start... all you heard a "click". When you jump start it tho, it starts right away. I even bypassed the ignition key to a starter button and all this crazy ****... it all came down to one problem. I guess when the car had the alarm system installed, the fckers used a thin gauge wire and we all know that when tempratures are in the extreme, it loses conductivity. I replaced that wire w/ a thicker gauge and guess what... no problems for 1 whole year now. so all in all, check all your connections goin to battery and starter first.

I have helped out other ppl w/ this problem before so if you search, you'll come up w/ those threads. They had the same prob u did. good luck!
