Electrical Problem!!!

My lights have been dim inside my car lately and i'm thinking it's the alternator but i'm not sure.

My car starts fine and i just bought a battery like a month or two ago and it's an optima RED top.

anyway my lights are dim inside and they seem to brighten up when the car is moving but don't return to there dim state when it's not, it just stays dim upon start-up and get's brighter when i drive and stays alright, kinda worried what could it be???

Trance.

Check all your OEM ground points. If you search for "hyperground upgrade" you'll find an old thread somewhere w/ a picture of where all the ground points are located at. I bet they're pretty dirty, you'd have clean em w/ fine sandpaper and perhaps use electrical grease on it. There was a thread recently about this prob. GOod luck

I would say check all your power connections at the battery and clean them regardless of whether or not they look okay. ALso, I would follow the negative wire down to the frame and remove the bolt and clean that connection too, then I would continue to follow the negative wire to the engine block. Again, I would clean that connection as well. After you've done that, I would check the belt tension driving the alternator. If your lights get brighter as the engine revs, I think that usually indicates a slipping belt. Do you have a multimeter? IF so, start your car after you've done all the above. While the car is running the battery voltage should be around 14.??, turn on all accessories and make sure the voltage stays high. Good luck. Btw, be careful w/ your meter leads and clothing while the car is running - those fans up front can kick on whenever they want.
