About test pipes...

Anybody have any definitive dyno proof as to how good/bad test pipes perform on mostly stock Maxima's? I'll be ordering a cold air intake and a Budget y-pipe to go along with it. The test pipe I'll be getting is also resonated, so hopefully it'll help cut down on any nasty noises it may make. I'd guess it'd cost less than $75 or so with it being resonated (they're normally $40 or so bare w/o resonator) from www.testpipes.com so I won't be out much money if it either sounds bad or if it doesn't make much power. And BTW, don't tell me to be a tree hugger, I've already done this on some of my older cars and already made up my mind to get one for this car I was just wondering what people's experiences with them on Maxima's are.

Cool, but I'm wanting a resonator to help keep the noise down a bit...

How do they perform BTW?

a resonator is a totally different thing, i thought you wanted a test pipe. and do a search on this you will find alot of info or goto www.custommaxima.com and read up on it. They help out on boosted max's more like mine.

ah, no wonder its so cheap, no resonator. The one at custom maxima was 50 dollars shipped in a group deal and it DOES have a resonator. See shogun, i knew there was something fishy about that test pipe....

(i remember some other thread u posted that price and just understanding why its so cheap now)

Well i cant look at any pics for some reason but im guessing that a resonator is something else in the way of the exhaust. i wouldnt want that anyway since im boosted. anyway they dont have one for my 96. so im good

Ahh, that sucks that the 95's have an o2 sensor after the cat. I remember reading awhile back about an o2 sensor bypass (basically a resistor or something like that which gives the ECU a false good reading), which should be perfect for situations like this IF they work. Anyone know if those really do work, and/or where to get them?

Ah-ha! Found them...they're called "MIL Eliminators". Check them out here:

http://www.ponyexpressperformance.com/

Granted, they're marketed to Mustangs, but it should work on the same general principle. That link also is to a local (for me) business, so I could always go talk to them in person and see what they have to say.

Thoughts/comments?

It might not be that simple. Since you are local, go talk to them. Maybe they are willing to develop one for the maxima. Let us know how it goes.
