Starting problem: bad starting sequence?

This is driving me nuts...

Got 96 SE Manual. Aprox 120000. New Platinum NGKs. New Crankshaft position sensor. Cranks but refusing to start.

About half a year ago car began developing starting problem similar to "please help starting problem euromaxima 4th Generation (1995-1999)" (newbee, dont' know how to make links yet, sorry). No engine light came on, but when with, help from Hanes, I checked the errorcodes it said that "0605 - cylinder 4 misfires". As a complete dummy, I ignored the problem for a while until October when the car refused to start completely. Went through Hanes "Engine Electrical Systems: Ignition System Check". Everything pointed to faulty ECM. Replaced it - no change...

Gave up, towed the car to the dealer. Technician tested it and said that everything pointed to the ECM and it had to be replaced. $1500 but no guarantees. Got one from the Junk $200 (they insist it's a working one). Once again: no change, same problem. Technician seems to be a really good guy, trying his best but still can not figure out what to do.

Technical details: the only way to get the cars started is to pull out the fuel sensor fuse and crank, crank, crank... Once it gets started, works nice and smooth (if the fuse is poped back in). Starting sequence sent from the computer is very erratic. Positive count (not sure what that means) is jumping all over the place.

Any thoughts?

Thanks!
