What kind of Paint

What kind of paint do you use to paint your engine cover?
What kind of paint do you use to paint your calipers?

Can I use the same paint to do both?

What brand do you guys use?
How much does it cost and where did you buy it at?

I'm interested in painting my calipers and engine cover as soon as winter is over...

BTW... what can I do if my rotors are starting to rust?

Thanx for your input

you can use caliper paint on the engine cover.
just look at the temp rating on it.
a brand for caliper paint is folia-tec.

it doesn't matter if your rotors are rusty...you're not painting it
if your caliper is rusty, clean it with a steel brush.

You can use:

1. High Temp engine paint (good to 600 deg intermittent)
2. High Heat paint (good for prolonged temps to 600 or intermittent temps up to 1200)

Read the can carefully. Some of the High Heat paints require them to be cured at a certain temperature for an hour or two or else they flake and eventually wear off.

They all go on pretty thin so you'll need to put on several layers and then maybe a few layers of clear high temp gloss.

They all run about $4-8 a can depending on brand and where you shop.

Use whatever's cheaper. All can be found at your local auto parts store.

If you really want to splurge, there are brake caliper paint kits out there that run about $50. They seem to do a pretty good job. They come with a hardener thats mixed with the paint. (Folia Tec, G2)

Have fun.

I used engine paint... the kind I used was rated up to 1200f. It also had ceramic coating in it. I painted an engine I rebuilt with the same thing in another color and it looks great after 6000 miles of driving on the engine. And the brakes look great also, just that they're kinda dirty. I wasn't able to cure the paint in an oven, I just put serveral (6 or so) coats on at 20 minute intervals(spray a thin coat and wait to dry for 20 mins and spray another thin coat.)

Foliatec or plastikote. Either way, make sure your valve cover is extremely clean, otherwise it's just a waste of time.
