Smoke "adhesive" tint for tails - where to buy?????

I'm interested in doing the tint treatment featured in the following thread:

http://forums.maxima.org/showthread....ght=tint+tails

BUT. . .

I want to use "smoke" colored tint and not "red."

It can't be standard automotive window tint, because that doesn't have an adhesive backing on it, and may not withstand washing and exposure for very long without beginning to peel back at the edges.

Anyone know where I can find this stuff?

(I don't want to use the spray-on tint, so please don't suggest that).

TIA,

-K-

U can't. It's diamond-textured in there. Besides, the orange lense would still be as ooglie as it is now, even if I were able to treat the lense somehow from the inside.

I want to lose the fugly orange corners, not show 'em off!

Thanks, though.

tint your tails

Think of it this way, when u get your windows tinted, there is no adhesive.....therefore you can use regular window tint on your tails. apply with warm soapy water and squeegee out the bubbles. Your windows take a beating on the inside everytime you roll them up and the tint doesnt(should'nt) peel, so you can do the outsides of your tails the same way......even if it wont work its worth a shot. How much does window tint cost? like $7 or 8/roll?? go try it!! Forget about us .Org members....you dont need us to hold your hand!

actually...the lense itself if not diamond textured...you should take it apart to find out....but I know its not...and while at it why not remove the orange lenses!

Maximabebe: Not looking for "hand-holding." Looking for a lead on this tint. I've already stated why I think window-tint is not an appropriate choice for this application. Outside vs. inside exposure - on a moving vehicle, that's a big difference. -And, the outside edge on both lamps will have a forward-facing edge on the tint, something that would likely start peeling back with a bit of wind & rain (if there's no adhesive on the tint).

As far as "just trying it" using window film goes, I'd say this: any job worth doing, is worth doing correctly, the first time. I don't like doing the same job twice.

Nupe500: I have a '95, not a '97-'99, unfortunately. I'm pretty sure the lense construction is different: which is why those of us with '95-'96's have fewer options.

Basically, I'm sure I want to tint the outsides of the lenses - I've considered my available options and want to keep the cost down on this mod, which means custommaxima red-clears are out, and I don't want Altezzas. . .

Please, anyone reply if you know where to find this tint.

Thanks,

-K-

smoked or other film for tails

Ok,after seeing people struggle to source translucent film for tails since I've been visiting this site, here's the poop...the material in question is signmaking vinyl..vinyl being a generic term, since different raw materials are used .When you view a page that discusses the process, you'll see the 'vinyl' most often has holes on either side, like the continuous feed paper in a pin printer...the vinyl is actually fed through a signmaking machine and a 'printer head' that is blade equipped cuts out whatever pattern has been programmed....ok,too much information ..for anyone looking for film, simply track down a supplier of signmaking materials in your area..some graphic artists stores carry the stuff, but it's a rather specialized item, and it comes in 10 yard plus rolls...and in a HUGE variety of colours and thicknesses etc..so your best bet is a specialized supplier..or ask your local signmaker for his source..
and no,I can't help with a source..but now you know where to look
Hope this helps

Will do. - Guess I was just hoping to get a lead on material that somebody had already worked with & was happy with.

Thanks for the tip.

Thank you! This is just what I was looking for.

Cheers,

EDIT: Ok, after some internet searching, it's clear that I'd have to get a local signmaker to provide me with the small amounts of translucent vinyl tint I'd need for this job, as 10 yard rolls online typically start @ $50+ - not an option for me. Looks like I may be off to find a hobby store, afterall!
