ran regular oil for 3k miles... can i go back to synthetic?
hey guys
I need a a quick opinion.. i kinda kno the answer already but i'd like your feedback on it anyways. Basically, my car has been running synthetic motor oil all it's life and unfortunately, I had to run regular motor oil for about 3k miles (95% highway). This happened at my last oil change... long story, basically my parents didn't want me to spend the money draining that new oil and putting synthetic. So, I can go back to synthetic right? I know synthetic = leaking if there are any present, but I hope nothing developed in those 3k miles. Any other downsides to goin back to it??
Thanks for ure opinions.... btw I do know alot of ppl think synthetic is pointless (as i searched and read before many times) but I already know that story. Thanks again!

oh yeah, this would be my FIRST oil change that i'm gonna attempt to do by myself... i would ask what brand you guys recommend (always had walmart do the change for me) but I think I will search than be flamed about it lol. Any tips tho? I tried to look up VQPower.com and maximadriver, but both sites don't work (vqpower= lookin for new server, and maximadriver= "page not found" when opening up the tune up section).
I remmber the mechanic said that the Oil Pressure sensor is dead and is leaking from there... I remember reading about how I can change that myself. Not too hard right? I'm gonna search that now. Ok, thanks!

The Oil Presure sending unit is located under your engine (passenger side) near the oil filter. It's a quick item to replace.
As for the oil... i've always ran Castrol Syntec Full Synthetic Motor Oil. In my previous cars i used Castrol GTX.
Hope this Helps,
Dave

Yes, you can go back to synthetic.
Replacing the OPS (oil pressure sensor) is easy, just make sure not to overtighten it or else you will crack the oil pan fitting!
Check the oil analysis here for results. Most guys run any brand of synthetic except Castrol Syntec. Some swear by Amsoil or Motul or whatever, but I just run Mobil 1 Supersyn. (at $3.99/qt on sale, it's expensive enough...)

Also, i wouldnt worry about any leaking, because its only 3k miles, and changing your oil back to synthetic since its already had it all its life shouldnt hurt a bit.
If you'd ran regular oil all it's life and then switched to synthetic then there could be some issues.

quick questions
- Which oil filter do you guys use?? Should I just go to Nissan and buy one?
- I'm reading the instructions on motervate.ca and I'm confused about one part... it says drive the car for more than 30 min before changing the oil. I'm assuming the oil will be very hot? Am I suppose to wait a while or something for the car to cool down before changing... or should i do it immediately? If so, i also assume that i use a long wrench to avoid any of the oil from having contact w/ my skin/gloves. Thanks

Yes drive the car around for awhile if it's not already warm. I suggest wearing one rubber coated gloves for protection from the oil and the temperature(so a surgical type glove might not work well). A reg glove might work if you don't care to get it oily. The rubber is good because you can just wipe off the oil.
You don't know what oil filter to use??? If you DON'T know, use a OEM Nissan one. If you want to actually learn something and maybe consider another filter:
