So today my two friends and I began to install my Frankencar intake with K&N filter. The install went pretty straight foward, so we took it out for a test drive. We drove through the neighborhood at pretty low RPM's and I could feel a more responsive throttle. So we turn out onto this frontage road which is pretty long and runs parallel to the freeway. I punch it and as I hit about 4000 RPM's I hear a loud click and wondered WTF was that. Next thing I know my throttle was stuck and I could not slow down at all. I put it in Neutral where I preceded to bounce of the rev limiter and then turned the ignition off and was able to come to a safe stop
. It was pretty scary. Turns out the throttle cable had gotten stuck underneath a part of the hose clamp from the intake. We unhooked the stuck throttle cable and I cruised at low RPM's back into the neighborhood where we fixed the position of the hoseclamp, allowing the throttle cable to open and close without interference. I took it out after that it and everything is fine, I can definitely feel increased throttle response and power at all RPMs (auto). The sound is awesome as well.
I did get the service engine soon light but I can't remember if I had it right after the install, it seems to me that I got it after the sticking throttle incident, I'm going to try to run the codes to see what might be the problem. Sorry for being long.

damn man, glad you are safe, that is more important than the car.Originally posted by ReichMax97

now that you are safe though, run those codes!

Yah, definitly shook everyone in the car up a little bit
- that intake is a monster, really reedy intake sound and definitly an increase in throttle response, evident even from the backseat. The tach is right there, no delay, throttle tip-in very smooth as well as power delivery. And I cannot get over that sound! Ferocious!
Hey FrankenCar, great job! Now make one for a 1997 A4 quattro, will ya?!

Wow its good that your safe, uckily it happen on the freeway, not on a busy street. Make sure you be careful next time, little mistakes can happen. Like my filter fell off one time, and my redlined for so long. I didn't tighten the screws tight enough, becuase I didn't know it shakes so much. Little things can cause biggger problems.

I also was wondering something else about the intake. As I give it throttle at any RPM, I get a small hiss/whistle sound when accelerating. Sort of sounds like a turbo or something. Anyway is this normal, do any of you others have this? Thanks

THE SAME EXACT THING HAPPENED TO ME AFTER I CLEANED MY THROTTLE BODY!!!!!!! It scared the living SH*T out of me. It happened 2 nights ago when I cleaned out the tb. I tightened the clamp to close to the throttle cables and it got stuck when I floored it on my private street. I was freakin out like crazy. I jammed the brakes and turned the ignition off while still in drive. Then I got out in the middle of the road and checked under the hood. The throttle cable was stuch over the screw of the clamp. I hit it down under the screw and kept the rpms real low on my way back. Then I fixed it and it ran fine. PHEEEW. I thought my max was going byebye.

wow what an experience. I'm glad you guys walked away w/ it w/ NO damage or anything. One thing about the CEL... did you disconnect the battery before u worked on the car??

Welcome to the hybrid. Getting the clamp stuck under the throttle cable is a common occurance when you first install it. You really have to tighten that first clamp down.
The whistle noise is another hybrid trait.

Same exact thing happened to me when I put on my Frankencar. When I tell the story, as I'm sure I did on the boards here, I like to add in, "and because I'm not a female driver, I knew what to do and shifted into neutral.."
If you do it right, it comes off as facetious bravado.

damn guys
lucky...
good thing it hasn't happened to me
the clamp connections on my frankencar are to the side or, rear of the throttle body, looks more clean and they are still easy to get to if need be..
that would scare the **** out of me.
quick thinking man

When I installed my Injen, we had the same thing happen. We went for the test drive but the car had now power and the gas peddle felt like it didn't want to go all the way down. So we turned around the corner at the bottom of my street and I punched it. The power was amazing but when I went to let off the gas, the peddle stuck. I put it in Neutral and shut it off.
Its a scary feeling but I am glad everyone is ok.

yeah i have the little wistleing sound to. its like when you drive normaly and you here a little wistle for the airfilter when you at around 2k rpm. it accually a sucking sound and it sounds like a wistle similar to a spooling turbo.

Yes that is exactly the sound I am experiencing. My friends say it sounds like a turbo, I don't really mind it, its sort of coolOriginally posted by jdmmax

I had a similar problem to this, when I first installed my midpipe and went for a test drive I could notice the new sound and power right away. I came around a corner at 30 and floored it, the car took off and then about 100yards down the road I lost all power and the engine shut off, no power steering or nothing I was really scared that I messed up something huge. so i started it, pulled forward and then lost all power again. I popped the hood and my vaccum hose came off and the car wouldnt run. Luckily I found a wrench in my trunk to stick the clamp on better...
The hissing sound is normal. All intakes do it. I had it on my CAI and when I converetd to hybrid. It actually got a bit louder with the hybrid. The hiss is the air going past the throttle body at part throttle. With a stock intake, that sound is completely muffled.
If you don't hear it on your aftermarket intake, try this;
Drive along a quiet street with your windows down (yeah I know its cold outside). Stereo off, climate control off etc. While your rolling along, accelerate slowly. Hissssssss. On my CAI it sounded the best. Like a snake about to attack

Exactly what happened to me. I was putting the WOT on the ramp to highway and I could sense the throttle was sticking when I punched the brake.
Did what I got to do, maintain normal cruising speed, push the lever to N, let the rev limiter took care of it, and then stop safely.
