A/T vs M/T difference in Coil Springs used on 95/96 Maxima SE's?

Does anyone know why the stock OEM front coil springs used for a 95/96 Maxima SE with automatic transmission are different than the stock coil springs used for a 95/96 Maxima SE with a manual transmission?

Nissan has one part number for each set of stock OEM coil springs used on an automatic, and another different part number for each stock set used with a manual transmission.

A general consensus with local Nissan mechanics is that the automatic tranny w/fluids weighs approx. 50-60 lbs more and that may be the reason for the difference in front coil springs.

However, nobody would venture a guess as to what effect it would have if the stock coil springs taken from a manual tranny on a 95/96 Maxima SE would have on the suspension, if installed on a 95/96 Maxima SE with an automatic tranny, or visa versa.

It my be helpful to know, especially when buying or selling the coil springs, and to avoid any subsequent conflicts.

Any assistance would be appreciated.

I put "automatic" B&G springs on my car when I was automatic. Shortly after I converted to 5spd. My front actually sits a hair LOWER then my rear. Most people have sagging problems but I have the exact opposite. I don't know if I just got lucky or what. I don't know if this helps, but b&g springs for "automatics" look/work better then average on my 5spd.

From what I've researched...

SE and GXE/GLE maximas have the same front springs. However, the MT cars have a different part number than those with automatic transmissions. Still, no difference between SE and GXE/GLE front springs.

However, the SE and GXE/GLE rear springs are indeed different.

The SE's do have different part numbers for all four shocks/struts.

I figured the MT/AT difference for the front springs was due to the extra weight of the auto tranny.

Good Luck!
