Tranny help needed

I drive a 97 SE 5spd maxima. A few days ago my tranny decided to die on me. I believe thats what happend. I'm having lots of difficulty shifting from 1st and 2nd.. the others gears shift smoothly. Also i'm getting clanging sounds coming from that area. Kinda sounds like a broken part moving around in there. Its hard to describe it. More along the lines of a broken pad on the clutch disk spinning around in the case. I highly doubt its the clutch though. I say this because I believe even if the clutch blew out i'd have trouble shifting to all gears or i'd still be able to shift to all and have.. I'm strongly thinking its a bearing that has come loose or broke. Anyways, I'm attempting to do this myself. I really don't feel like paying a grand or more for someone else can do this.. I've done the clutch before, just wondering how much more difficult a transmission would be.

Any helpful tips you guys know that I don't .. Any would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Also was wondering if their is a inspection type plate that can be removed to look inside? I know I was able to do so on a rwd, but never really played around with fwd.

Good luck to you DIY. Best public site I've found for the tranny is
http://www.motorvate.ca/
Look under transmission.

P.S. If it turns out you need a complete replacement e-mail me
