As you know one end of the negative battery cable is connected to the negative battery terminal, but what the other end connects to? Ground? I just noticed that the factory negative cable other end is connected to this brass looking plate, and that plate is connected to some kind of device(I'm not too familiar with the Maxima engine bay.) Anyway, it's pretty tight around there. So, when I install the new negative battery cable, do I have to connect it the way how the factory cable was? Can I just simply connect the negative cable using a metal screw and screw it onto a metal surface/ground? I couldn't reach in to the factory negative cable plug, so I was dumb enough to remove the hose that connects to the radiator. Got radiator fluid all over me, and the engine bay. To say the least, it's a mess. Man, was I foolish to try that.

Connect it exactly the way the factory does. I recommend disconnecting the pos side connector for safety reasons. Good luck!

Thanks Jeff. Now, the only problem is to figure how to get into that tight space.

I was wondering, why are you replacing the battery cables with your battery? I just replaced my battery a few weeks ago and I just used the stock battery cables and it works fine.

BTW, yes that extension off the negative battery cable goes to the ground. That grounding bolt also comes in handy when you are charging the battery with an external charger.

Yeah, I know that I could use the stock battery cables, but since I'm using new battery terminal clamps, I thought I might as well change the cables. They were kind of worn out.

I just replaced my negative cable so that it would be able to handle the same current as the positive cable. Mine is a '99 SE. The cable goes to a copper ring terminal right behind the battery. I unscrewed the old ring terminal and used the bolt to connect the new terminal.
