is 3qts enough oil?

i changed my oil today and switched to mobile 1 synthetic with a hastings oil filter. everything went fine, but i gave it only 3 quarts and the oil stick read above the "H" mark. I hear you are suppose to put 4 qts in so i was wondering why i only fit 3 . i took readings several times to test the accuracy of the oil stick but nothing changed... any suggestions

you cant go by the dip stick right away, you ahve to let the oil settle down and get to the oil pan before you check the oil. Look at both sides of the dip stick as well one side will run the side of the block. Use 4.2 qt in the max, nothing more nothing less

I changed my oil 2 days ago... first time by myself too. I put 3 and a half bottles... so yeah 3.5 quarts... which is close enough to 3 liters as others were advising me to put in. Uh oh is this ok? Or should i pour in the last half bottle in??

Pour the rest of that bottle in. Get another quart and pour 1/4 of that in. Then, check your oil in a couple days. It should be right on.

ive been putting 4 qts in , when i check dipstick after its been sitting all night it says its fine, so far i have done this 6 times to my car

some one told me they put 5qts of oil in their car always, even though the manual says 4.25
he said he has been doing that for 4yrs and still no problems

Likes his crankcase frothy, I guess. Tell him to do a little reading up on the consequences of overfilling the crankcase. (Namely: foaming or aeration of the oil) That might change his tune.

I always get a kick out of people who have destructive maintenance habits & justify them by saying "Well, it hasn't blown up, yet!"

Just too damn funny.

You're better off with (barely) less than too much.

just a couple things;
1. one quart = 9.8660 liters, so 3.5 quarts is close enough to 3.5 liters to count.
2. only put as much oil as the engine needs in your car. if your dipstick reads full after 3.5 quarts why put in another quart?
