Problem with shifter

Here's the situation:

A couple of buddise and I were at a bar last night, and when I got into my friends 1999 Maxima GLE to drive home, for some reason the shifter would not go out of park. I would press the release button, but it would only go down half way, so, inevitably, the car could not be taken out of park. Only after screwing with it for like 10 minutes, it finally came out of park. And yes, I was pushing the brake down

That was starting to happen to mine. Its probably just getting old. I got rid of my auto shifter so i dont have to worry about it anymore.

if you dont use the parking brake and put it in park it may roll a little bit and cause stress against the locking pin in the tranny so thats why its hard to move it out of park since its binded up against the pin. What you can try to do is have a couple guys push the car up the incline to relieve the stress and then take it out of park.
